The Flats are jumping in the boat

Perfect night for flathead fishing last night. Steady light rain, warm, flat calm, water temp 59 degrees. Early spring weather and the river is on a nice steady drop and almost back within its banks. The river bank is totally greened up and the banks are a beautiful lush green right to the horizon. The swallows are dipping and diving over the river. Bullhead rods are dancing. Life doesn’t get much calmer than this – now if the Twins could just win a few games Life would be perfect. At about 2130 one rod doubled over and the peace and calm got a bit hectic. Boated a nice 39″ X 28″ flathead after a fiesty fight. Second good fish this week. Summer has officially arrived – I’ve got two nice flats on the King of the Cats Flathead Leaderboard – Time to fish till you drop. I’m out again tonight.

I Can’t lie, I have a hard time sitting in my rig with only rain gear during a nighttime rain frown

Smartest thing I ever did was going with the Day Enclosure when I bought my pontoon. It is great for the early season (April/May) flathead chasing and is perfect for late season (September/October) sturgeon fishing. On a cold night a Mr Heater feels pretty good in there. Last night it was wet and it was raining and drizzling all night. I opened one section of the enclosure onto the back deck and set out two rod holders. I sat in the Captain’s chair and read a book with two bullheads bouncing around out the back. I heard the rod bark in the rod holder and it was doubled over with a nice flat on the line. Only fish of the night but it was a beauty. Life is Good!!
