    The paper ran this today.

SOOOOO – how do you make the perfect BLT?
For me you have to Bake the bacon I haven’t fried bacon in 20 years.
    Iceberg lettuce
    Beef steak tomato
The bread is very important and should be toasted, I prefer a sour dough.
I do like a slice of american cheese on mine
    and
In no way does Miracle whip go on my sandwich, Mayo! period

I do like the idea of putting salt and pepper on the tomato, I’ll need to try that.
Pickles on the side, with ruffle chips and of course an ice cold Corona.

    Thoughts?

    Sounds pretty good.

We often substitute basil for lettuce and use baked bacon and mayo as well. My wife makes a really good English muffin bread, it’s the recipe on the King Arthur flour sack.

The best BLT I ever had was in downtown Vegas. The diner had fresh Californian tomatoes, lettuce and avacado. The sour dough was from San Francisco. The avacado absolutely made it awesome along with the fresh bread and veggies. Try a BLT with sliced avacado!

Thick sliced bacon from the local meat market, no grocery store crap for me. I also bake the bacon, ice berg lettuce as well and home grown tomatoes from a buddy of mine. Mayo only, miracle whip make me gag. I’m not really fussy about the bread, but it has to be toasted. Wife always buys Italian.

Toast the bread, then dip it in the bacon grease….

Man some of you guys are fancy! Must be tough to pack a lunch to go fishing for the day. I suppose everything has to go in a Yeti or it’s not the same. wink

Kidding aside, I like the sounds of avocado. I use that on fish tacos and chicken sandwiches and like it.

So far for me though, BLT is whatever bread is cheap or on sale, sale priced bacon, whatever lettuce the store carries, and some kind of tomato… a red one.

So maybe my BLT refinement is a little lacking, but I can fry some mean fish dangit!

I never liked BLT’s as a kid and then I realized it was because my parents used miracle whip.

Toasted white bread, thin sliced tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, real mayo, American cheese. Set it on the counter, squish it flat with the palm of your hand.

I lost 18 years of my life to miracle whip. Real mayo FTW.

I’m a big fan of avocado and an over easy egg (or 2) on my BLT. I think I’ve seen it referred to as a pub sandwich. In any case, I like to mash the avocado and use it in place of mayo – slices of avocado move around with the egg. My preference is a hearty wheat bread, toasted of course. Fresh tomatoes are key! With the egg it’s a messy sandwich but we’ll worth it. Because of this thread I’ll probably be eating one within the next few days. )

We added roasted pepper from the garden last week and it definitely improved the sandwich. I like avocados once in a while. Sometimes a little horse radish sauce.

Miracle whip ONLY for me and I like to throw some sliced cucumbers on it for extra crunch. I would never do bacon the injustice of baking it either doah

Add a pan fried piece of salmon to your BLT. I like to season with salt, pepper, and mesquite steak seasoning. Obviously fry the salmon in the bacon grease. Gotta have thick cut bacon, tomatoes and lettuce fresh from the garden, white bread, and mayo.

I’ve never had a bad BLT…but the best is with fresh from the garden L&T, Thielen’s bacon and homemade sourdough bread with a side of sweet corn. I’ll do mayo or miracle whip.

Same here, miracle whip is gross. Good bacon is good either baked or fried, doesn’t matter much to me; main reason I bake it is so I can make a bunch at the same time.

Squishy white bread toasted up good and slathered with Hellman’s, Hack’s bacon, Cherokee Purple tomatoes sliced thick, and a big pile of shredded green leaf lettuce. IMO anything more and it stops being a BLT.

The bacon and lettuce just ruins a good tomato sandwich! Gotta be a real summertime tomato though, picked fresh from the garden. Sweet corn on the side just makes it better. One of the joys of summer…

Nothing else matters as much as garden fresh maters. My Burpee Porterhouses hang out on all sides!

Fresh smoked bacon, pepper jack cheese, lots of bacon, fresh leafy lettuce, good thin sliced tomatoes, on buttered slightly toasted wheat bread. Skip mayo and miracle whip cause they both suck. Drown with Tobasco

I like to make my BLT with avocados, I never have liked mayo or Miracle whip on anything.
I mash the avocado and mix it with Jalapeno flavored Philadelphia Cream cheese.

1/8” thick cottage bacon, spinach, fresh tomatoes from the garden, real mayo, white American cheese, on a toasted hoagie.

    I like a B L no T
Start with good substantial bread, (type doesn’t matter much) not the light stuff my wife calls bread that is only there to keep your fingers from touching the fixings. toast it (not burnt black but not warm stale bread either), lots of butter ( real butter not margarine or half olive oil or spread anything, Miracle whip, couple of layers of plain old iceberg lettuce,
at least 4 or five slices of good thick bacon (broken in half) cant be rubbery or so crispy it explodes, that’s it. Take your weird green fruit/vegetable thing back to California.
maybe a side of mac and cheese and a glass of chocolate milk, just to make sure I’m getting more carbs than I should, aaaahhhh…

We are fond of Rotella’s honey wheat bread, sour dough, but I’m fond of many great Italian artisan breads whichever it must be nicely toasted. My own heirloom maders sliced @ 1/2″ or thicker, iceberg lettuce, wrights branded thick cut bacon or my own not done crispy tho, and lots of miracle whip (only because the wife has no interest in real mayo.)

A slice of my smoked cheddar makes any BLT better. Bacon and cheese just seem to go together.

I like a good “B” sandwich skip the rabbit food. Bake a pound of bacon in the oven. Toasted white bread or whatever I have. Liberal amounts of Hellmans Mayo on both slices. Wife likes miracle whip, and I still married her. Then pile on half the bacon. The perfect B sandwich. Down side is that it only makes 2 sandwiches.
