Smaller lures usually get the most fish regardless of type, but how small a lure?
A few days before I got into small schools in 5 FOW anchoring, casting around the boat, moving 20′ after the bite stopped. 42 fish was a decent catch which included sunfish, a few bass over 15″, crappie ranging in size from 10-14″ and white perch. Soft plastic lure size was generally: 2 – 2.5″ rigged on 1/16 oz. jigs.
But, two days later the wind was steady at 15-20 mph so I had to find wind protected areas for my 10′ Jon boat after getting nothing in the same area I caught fish a few days before. The same lures and jig weight didn’t cut it so I went smaller and lighter to be able to work shallow flats that had emerging pads. A 1/32 jig rigged with only a grub body/ no tail, cast a nice distance using 8# test braid. The first fish caught was a small bass (shown); a few fish later a 20″ pickerel got hooked.
