Ohio State and Wisconsin game was proof that any team can step up and play their best or worst game on any given day.
Clearly, OSU deserved the win in that game. 450 yrds Vs 300yrds, with the biggest factor rushing. OSU had 230 Vs 60. Most of the other stats were pretty equal. I’m not a die hard fan that is going to loose sleep or have a flippin heart attack over a game. But i do enjoy college ball vs Pro and watch quite a few games. This was by far the worst effort WI produced all season.
All year, WI has won by playing consistent in all aspects of the game – Special Teams, Defense, Offense (rushing and passing). Not one aspect of their game has stood out as a power house. Rather by playing consistent across the board, they always maintained an opportunity to win, and each part contributed to the success of the other. In the case of the game with OSU, there were 3 main let downs that cost them. 1. Fundamentals (tackling) For what ever reason, the defense looked like they were throwing the game. All year, the defense executed good team work in tackling. In this game, it was all open arm bumper crap. The defense blew so many opportunities to shut OSU down that it was ridiculous. 2. Hornyboy played his worst game. He’s not a pro level quarterback and his success has been the collective effort of EVERYONE around him. Everyone here watching the game could call the play being ran just by his body language when he lined up. Again, it was a failure to execute fundamentals. He didn’t step up and was just going through the motions. 3. Coaching and 3rd down efficiency. Throughout the year, the play calling has been to the over-all strengths throughout the game – not the player or season as a whole. In this game, the play calling was horrible. When its 3rd and 7 and your averaging 1.2 yrds a carry off the left tackle – why call that play again??? Additionally, they called more short plays when it was 3 and long. Just wasn’t coached to the game, but to the seasonally history.
On the other hand, you have an OSU quarter back that played the best game of his season. He was mentally prepared, well coached, and obvious heart to do all that he could. Pretty hard to predict what he was going to do. As for the RB and receivers, nothing special. In every scoring drive, WI has the opportunity to dump them for a loss or very little gain. urine poor fundamentals by WI gave OSU almost 300 yrds. KUDOS to OSU for playing their best game of the season and WI got their wake up call that they have to play every game, every down, every minute.
I would enjoy seeing a rematch of WI and OSU. I think it would come down to another close game and show the differences in coaching.
