That's a Wrap: 4/6 – 4/8 Report

Well it’s safe to say my 2016-2017 ice fishing season came to an end this past weekend. We drove hundreds of miles north past dozens of open lakes in search of safe ice. We were rewarded with 3 days of non stop hooksets in 60+ degree bluebird sky weather.

Day 1 we caught a pile of TROPHY whitefish with the biggest fish topping 7 lbs. These fish were all humpheaded monsters and our average whitie for the trip was actually heavier than our average laker. Most were even caught on 4″ white tube jigs!

The shoreline ice was deteriorating and got tore up after day 1, so days 2 and 3 we switched to a different lake with better ice to target lakers. The fish weren’t huge but in 2 days our group iced well over 100 lakers including a few tagged fish.

Overall it was an outstanding trip that saw trophy fish, numbers, and the best consistent weather I’ve ever ice fished in. No better way to put an end to the short 2016-2017 ice fishing season.
