Was fishing down at the river and another angler noticed I had walked pretty far upstream. He picked me up in his boat and we ended up fishing. I had a ton of fun as we got into some bass and crappie. Awesome that this guy did that because very rarely I get to fish from a boat.

That’s awesome. People that fish the river are good people. I’ll be in that same spot tomorrow. You can try gulp plastics from shore, too. Both sides of the river just working them on the bottom through current seams. Just bring alot of jigs because it’s snag city. I actually prefer to shore fish the st paul side. Start at hidden falls launch and work the shoreline up to the dam. Biggest walleye I’ve ever caught came from shore on that stretch.

I can’t believe he got his boat up into the creek….

Yeah and the fact they caught two largemouth. I’ve fished down there religiously my whole life and have never caught a LMB…

Anyways, cool of him to pick you up and throw you some baits. Like randy said, pay it forward!

Could be, but I wouldn’t think they would tolerate the creek with the fast water and fluctuating levels. They probably just made their way upstream following the migration of shiners. But who knows! Love the mystery aspect of fishing-especially the river!

I have fished from Lillyday up to the dam the last 10 years and have had 1 largemouth in that time frame. On one trip this week we caught 3 very weird. Also I have no idea where all the whitebass have gone. I used to catch 10+ a trip and I think I have caught less then 5 this year.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I know white bass populations fluctuate, but I literally have caught two in the last 4-5 years or so. Strange.

I used to see huge amounts of whitebass that were caught & kept around Pike Island when they schooled up in that area. I called TIP a few times for over limits. But even so, I don’t think that would be the reason for the decline in the river. It is a mystery…

Yeah its very strange, no white bass and just a few smallmouth, if you check out my urban bass fishing at the ford dam video, I land like 5 or 6 nice largemouth from the river. It is really interesting, the way the bass population has fluctuated on the river in recent years.

I would also be a person who would consider a LMB a rare catch on Pool 2. My guess would be the high water levels in Minnetonka/Nokomis flushing a lot of those fish down the creek into that general area you are catching them. The Mhaha water district has had the dam there lowered for almost a month. They are trying to drop the water level by more than a foot before freeze up.

    Just a theory….
