You officially turned me into a sunglasses whore. Or is it hoarder? Either way, I’ve got a problem.

I used to stand by my Maui Jim Kahunas for years and years. Great warranty / replacement policy for a reasonable price so I’m on my third set of the same style after about 25 years. While searching for some low light polarized glasses I discovered how nice the Costas are and not only got the yellow for low light but another darker set for brighter days which pretty much replaced my Maui Jims. Good thing since they are still laying on an undisclosed island on the river waiting to be retrieved. Neither of the Costas came a n inexpensive price tag but I see great value in quality eyewear.

Then I started seeing some good deals on Raybans and Oakleys pop up on Woot for $60. I had some Rayban polarized prescription shades before I switched to contacts and loved them. In the span of about a week I ordered 3 sets. The first Raybans that came I really didn’t care for for me, too big of lenses and wide frames. I might put them in the classifieds here. I was bummed, what have I done, I’ve dropped nearly a couple hundred dollars on a few of these without trying them on. Then my Oakleys and 2 more Raybans came and I loved them! The Oakleys especially. What a great fit and look. Just saw another set of Oakleys that I had to get. This will be my first set of non polarized glasses since the early 1980s. I hope I don’t regret it. These are the set I have coming –

My dash is filling up quick. The one case has Raybans in them too.

    Everybody needs a hobby!

I want to order some prescription Costas. I have astigmatism and glasses over contacts help that. I can’t help to think that prescription polarized lens will help me while sight fishing the flats.

I also assume I can pay with my HSA money.

I just don’t know how to go about ordering prescription Costas.

I have to say not having those glasses on the dash inside a case bothers me.

I was a sunglasses addict but broke it about 5 years ago. Raybans and Oakley’s mostly. Problem was I had trouble keeping track of them or would ruin them. Sit on them or get bent up carrying them in a cargo pocket or just flat out lose them.

Then one day I bought a cheap pair of I Gogs from Holiday and decided I had to stop spending all that money on designer brand name sunglasses. I still get tempted by the Ray Ban sales on Woot.

Go to an optometrist who is a registered dealer of Costa. They will hook you up. Just make certain they are ordering directly through Costa, not just buying their standard lenses through a supplier and putting them in Costa frames.

I’ve got bad astigmatism and horrible vision that the only frames I can get are the flat fronted 70s looking grandpa styles, so be aware you may not be able to get every style they make. Wish I could get a pair that actually wrapped around to block the sides.

I recently read that Leupold optics is out with new sunglasses, or as they call them “Purpose Built Performance Eyeware”. Polarized and non-polarized models, prescription ready, lifetime guarantee, and “ballistic protection”. Various models available. Thinking about giving them a try. They should know a thing or two about lenses I would think.

Got it. I went to Costa and found the optometrist finder.

I was just looking at my new pair of Costa’s. Nose piece when to heck on the old pair…

Costas are made by Oakley which surprised me.

Not sure where you’re seeing that. As of 2018 they are owned by the same parent company when their parent companies Luxottica (Oakley) and Essilor (Costa) merged into EssilorLuxottica. However as far as I know they are both operated separately with Costas Headquarters in Florida and Oakley HQ in California.

Even Lenscrafters amd RayBan is under the same umbrella.

They may all have the same Chinese manufacturer however….

I went the other direction, used to buy nice sunglasses and then be pissed when I’d lose or wreck them. I’ve bought 3 pairs of polarized cheapies ($20-30) since then and only broke one, and it’s probably been 10+ years.

I’m the opposite bigwerm. Always bought cheapies and wouldn’t be careful with them. I treat my Costas like my wife’s feelings.

Cheap pair of igogs for me. Actually I have 2 pair. FF has them on hand. Less than $20 each. I like them and they last for at least 3 or more years for me. toast

I do the i-gogs thing. I have one new pair in each vehicle. 2 work pairs in my truck, and 1 pair for when I know they’re gonna get wrecked. Cutting new flashing into a chimney, cutting steel, weed whipping…. If the driver’s get scratched, they get demoted down the line. Then I go shopping. Or wait for the 3 times a year FF has them 20% off.

I do have 2 pairs of sunglasses. The Costas are usually only for fishing. The Ray Ban aviators are when I’m out disguised as Eric church

I bought a pair of $129 Oakleys off Woot for $50 a couple weeks ago. Problem is I didn’t realize they weren’t polarized so back they went. doah

My polaroid sunglasses have some scratches on the lenses like skin burns. This brand is not popular in the US, so it’s difficult to find a lens replacement. I am thinking about Ray-Ban or Oakley for my next investment.
