So I’m starting a new series on my YouTube channel geared for beginning bass anglers or anglers and kids who are just starting out. My first video is on the Texas Rig because it’s such a versatile technique. I thought since there isn’t a ton of video content in the bass pages here I’d post it.

If this annoys anyone or the mods just let me know and we can take it down, but I thought it’d be good to have here for someone looking for beginner tips. I’m no professional angler but I think I know enough to provide a good starting point. Link below.

I go back/forth between Invizx and Abrazx for T-rigging… do you choose Invizx because its more manageable? I’ve landed on Abrazx 15 this year but not sure I can tell a big difference so far… I need to catch more to be sure haha ~

Great video. It’s nice to see someone step back to the basics. There is a ton of videos on the advanced techniques. Nice to see that someone remembers that there are a lot of people who are new to the sport and want to keep it simple to get them started. Keep them coming. Like you said the Texas rig is one if not the most versatile rig a bass fisherman can use. It should be one of the first setups a person new to bass fishing should learn to use. I would guess there have been more bass caught on it than most any other setup. The sky’s the limit as to what plastic you can fish on it. Almost any plastic you have or know of will work. To peg or not to peg. I prefer not to unless I’m fishing in real heavy cover. One other tip I will add. I almost alway use a bead between my weight and my hook. A company named Vike makes what they call a force bead that I alway use. The bead serves two purposes. One I think it protects the knot from the weight. And two when the weight rattles against the bead it adds some noise. As far as weights go, a good old lead bullet weight will work fine. I prefer the tungsten weights these days. They are much smaller in size and much more durable. The smaller profile helps them come through cover slightly better.

Frydog- I use InvizX because it’s the first fluoro I found to be manageable. I have not tried abrazX.

Fishthumper- I figured I’d hear about not using a bead. I have never used one and haven’t experienced any issues with the weight damaging the knot. I can see the advantages of it for sure but I am a clumsy fisherman so simplicity is my best friend. One less step is always good for me! rotflol

Thanks for the kind words guys.

With Most of the new Tungsten sinkers its probably not as big of a deal. With some of the older lead sinkers the hole that was drilled in them use to be rather jagged and sharp on the edge that made contact with the knot. Its just something that I’ve done for lots of years. Not necessary for sure !!!! Like you said simple is better. That is probably why I don’t bother with the bead to peg the sinker most of the time while Texas rigging.

Great video! I personally always struggled with the Texas rig but watching you skin hook the plastic now makes sense plus many baits now have a relieve cut in them to help bury the hook. Definitely a easy way to fish. Look forward to your videos no fuss no hype no one yelling at you how great a bait is just what the general fishing public needs good job!
I actually shy away from youtube videos due to the hype and weeding through umpteen videos to just find a simple how to.

    Thanks Mahtofire14!

Like Mahto, I usually rig with a weight, bobber stop, sometimes a bead… but when I’m in a hurry, or taking out friends/guests that don’t fish much and want to try Texas-rigging – I use these. It’s a lot less to rig up and still has the articulated head that swings like a true T-rig.

Those look about as simple and easy as possible. Great looking way to get someone new started.

This is perfect timing. Haven’t watched yet, but will be. Pre-fished a lake last night a little for our league this week. The last few years my go-to has been a dropshot or weightless wacky dropped on the very edge of the pads in about 5-6fow. Not sure if it’s the warmer water or the lower water, but I didn’t get bit as much as I was expecting. Plan to have a t-rig and possibly a jig & pig tied up to get further into the cover where I suspect they’re hiding out. I started out several years ago with the t-rig (not a ton of experience with it) and I’ve pretty much abandoned it the last few. I’ll report back with results.

Guys I really appreciate it. Nice to know it’s helping some people. It also helps me because I go back and relearn these techniques and hear feedback from other anglers on how they fish it.

Frydog, that little pretied setup looks pretty slick!

Back to the fluoro conversation, I think I’ve mentioned it on the forums before but I spray my line and spool with KVD Line and Lure Conditioner and really believes it makes a difference. It’s also water based not oil, so it doesn’t make your gear or hands all greasy.

    Nice video fire14! waytogo
I might, I said might give it a try.
Besides I can hardly wait to tell the FW when she asks what I caught a bass on, I can say I was using a 8″ hum dinger with a beaver tail. woot
