What are everyone’s thoughts on these. I was thinking of one for my .270wsm so my son could shoot it. For some reason it kicks like a mule. What do you think it cost to buy one and have it installed?

I would look at getting a Pachmayr Decelerator Pad installed. I am personally not a fan of brakes due to the noise. I have a brake on a 340Wby and I won’t shoot it at any time without hearing protection. I have a 7mm with the decelerator pad on it and my wife shoots it no problem. How old is your son?

If your barrel isn’t already treaded to accept one. Threading your barrel could be spendy. I like the break on my .308 it does make it a bit loader but it doesn’t bother me much hunting.

Just ordered my new thumb hole stock for the tikka 270wsm with the parch! I have a heavier scope and mounts/accessories and it helps. My loads are running just under 3200 fps and it has a thump to it. My 15yr old.daughter loves it, but then she’s begging for a 338.

My brother swears by muzzle Brakes. I would try the pads first. Ahlmans will do a muzzle break for $150.00 You can never shoot the gun without hearing protection period. You should not shoot out of ground blind or box blind unless muzzle extends well past opening. The concusion in a box blind will give you a headache you will not forget as well as kick up a duststorm blinding you. Never sight in 7mag with Brake on hood of Bronco with hood ornament. Still looking for it. I have friend who took one shot at deer with .280 with brake and suffered permanent hearing loss. They are not worth it in my opinion. Do they work yes are you disciplined enough to always have hearing protection on while hunting?

I was looking at the Simms pad as a first solution. Is this other one better?

I have a Browning 300 win mag that used to whoop my butt and got to the point I didn’t want to shoot sent in to have a muzzle brake installed and when it come back kick was just about all gone, took it hunting and shot a deer with it in a valley and my ears rang for about two days. Did take to Colorado and shot a couple Elk with it but not without ear protection…. Know it just sets in the cabinet :/ Not a big fan of muzzle brakes

My dad shoots a “sissy pad” from Cabelas and loves it.

Muzzle beaks are bad. A terrible item. I shoot multiple big mangums each year ( loaded hot) and do not see the need for a muzzle break.
