The pain in the with reloading supplies is getting quite frustrating…which I know it has been for many. Anyways, The Hornady V-Max .224 55gr have been a little tough to get on a regular basis. But, I have seen the .224 Nosler 55gr Armageddon bullets stocked at a few places on repeated visits. Any opinions or thoughts on these? For my 22-250, I have a load for a Barnes 50gr TSX anf the V-max 55’s. Since I can get 500ct boxes for just a little more than the 250ct V-max, I thinking about making the change for plinking and P/dog loads

I have not shot anything but paper with them but I did load up 100 of them in 55 gr for my .223 heavy barrel AR. The noslers were just a bit more accurate than the hornady vmax and the groups were less than 2″s apart. Just shooting paper they seem to me to be basically the same.

Are you taking about the Nosler Varmageddon, Randy?

I tried the 55 grain, but I ended up with better results from the 50g Ballistic Tip (orange tip) in my .223.

Word on the street is the Varmageddon is kind of Nosler’s version of Hornaday’s V-Max vs Z-Max. Similar bullet with only minor differences in jacket thickness and lead alloy.

I had a chance to play a little with the Noslers and I was happy with a quick starting point. Many guys on reloading forums had indicated the were very similar to the V-Max. My pet load for the V-Max is Varget 36.1gr. The Noslers / Varget load was showing the best signs at about 35.5 . From here I’ll bump up and down and play with the seating depth a little and all should be good.
The only thing I got to test them on besides paper was a water bottle at 200yrds. It looked quite explosive as the water blew up!
