Checked a few sites online I normally shop for ammo and they are all out. Stopped by Mills in Oakdale this morning and the shelves are bare for all popular pistol ammo and .223 They had a few magazines left but not many. This is going to be a bad one.

It seems that any time there is mention of a “Gun Ban” or a legislative change, everyone tends to spend their savings on ammo, mags, accessories, etc. The most interesting thing to me? All of the antis/pro ban are causing a huge increase in sales, which is the opposite of their intentions?!

This gun issue we have in our country could not bother me more..clearly there are holes in the system, but is it too late? With millions of guns in our homes already, this issue is not going away..ever. I’ve said this way too much, but our trouble is much worse than the number of guns and is more linked to the upbringing of the youth, the things they are exposed to, the meds that they are put on, etc.

That being said, I own several guns with some being for hunting purposes, and the rest for shooting hobbies. I also have plenty of ammo for each, so when times like this arise I feel like I have sufficient supplies rather than running from store to store.

I was in the market for an AR-15 in the next couple months.

Needless to say, with the frenzy that has begun, I decided I would go ahead purchase one now, just in case.

Should’ve done it a week ago, because they are basically unobtainable now. May have to assemble my own.

A buddy told me he ordered 3000 rounds of .223 ammo on the 15th of the month for 350/ per 1000 rounds. The same ammo now is over 800 / per 1000 rounds.

It isn’t going to be good…….

Pretty sad about the whole deal, it angers me every time i here the anti gun idiots exploiting the deaths of innocent children to pass their legislation banning what we have fought for for centuries!

I couldn’t agree more….every talk station is on the gun control topic. We are less than a week from a horrible tragedy and the politics and media have turned it in to a circus with the sole purpose of advancing their own agendas.

The sad fact is that laws won’t stop bad people from doing bad things. Harming/killing others, stealing, doing/selling drugs or whatever those are all illegal activities yet happen all too often.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families in Conn.

I am so sick of hearing all the media call this “gun violence” A gun is an inanimate object, it cannot be violent anymore than it can care and have feelings. I heard Brian Williams call it that last night… and then he switched gears to “the other half of the equation” mental health issues… wtf ?? the Mental health issues of one person, is the ONLY reason 26 people lost their lives, not because of a gun In fact, because someone/anyone DID NOT have a gun in that school, it more than likely caused more needless loss. Do things need to change… YES, but let’s address the real issue and not put blame where it does not belong… Obama said just because it is not easy, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t tackle it… I agree, but we need to address the real issues and not scape goat that a “gun” did this

I agree with you BigG. In all these shootings someone has to pull the trigger and that person pulling the trigger IS the problem. Obviously if the assailant has gotten to that point laws mean nothing to them so I don’t follow how new gun regulations will do anything to prevent future tragedies like the one last Fri.

The best thing we can do right now as law abiding citizens and supporters of the 2nd Amendment is to contact our state and federal politicians and voice our opinions in a clear constructive manner. As much as it infuriates me to hear some of the liberals speaking out against guns when they have no clue what they are talking about we need to maintain a level head and communicate with our politicians in a professional manner or it will go in one ear and out the other.

I dont think the majority of the population cares about guns so they wont support them. They could pass about any law they wanted right now and we would be stuck with it. I dont know about the meek inheriting the earth but they sure are gonna stick it to the rest of us. Fricken sheople.

Gander in Woodbury has ammo like nothing is happening. All shelves full and the same variable prices including some good deals. The only thing they are out of is AR mags and Glock 17 mags.

All of the major outlets are seeing huge sales of both guns and ammo.

Happened to go to Walmart in Woodbury last night. Handgun ammo almost cleared out in the most popular calibers. Also noticed shotgun shells were very low, but this could be a seasonal thing.

I have to admit that I’m contributing to the problem. On Saturday I went online and bought a year’s supply of rifle bullets of various types. I have trips already planned and I simply have to have the ammo.

Now I’m a hunter, not a comp shooter, so I go through a relatively modest 1000 to 1500 rounds per year. So we’re not talking a LOT of bullets here. However. . .

At that point everything was good, but then my plan fell apart when I called around for powder. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Cleaned out.

My friends, this is going to get ugly. Setting aside whatever legislation happens, it didn’t take that much panic buying LAST time in 2007-2008 when a lot of guys had themselves all whipped up about rumors that Obama was going to ban all guns the day he took office.

That panic spree saw reloading components become almost completely unavailable for 2 years. Between 2008 and 2010, I tried every avenue to buy powder and primers and short of paying ransom prices on the internet (and then obscene shipping costs on top of that), I could not find a single pound of any of the 6 powders that I use in quantity. It was the same with primers.

That lasted from December 2007 to May of 2010 when I finally managed to find both powder and primers in the quantities I needed. It was down to the wire at that point as I had a pasture poodle shooting trip all scheduled and I had exactly none of the 800 rounds I needed.

I hope this panic calms down quickly, but for now I must say that I’m officially going into “conservation mode”. I’ll be shooting a lot of air rifle and rimfire from here on out.

I see Fleet Farm in Hudson has been emptied of ANY AR style gun AND they’re going to limit the purchase of any future guns that come in to “one per customer” because they saw people reselling their Huldras for ransom prices on the internet! I hope…. for these opportunistic blood suckers….. that nothing happens to the AR laws because they’re counting on a ban to make their profits!

Element in Becker is all good for Black rifles. Only problem is on his facebook page the anti gun crazies are writing him bad letters. But on the positive side. His customers are standing by him and so is the City!

I stopped into the new Bill’s Gun Shop and Range in Hudson a couple weeks ago. There were more black rifle on the walls (from waist high to the ceiling) then I’ve ever seen in my life.

No, didn’t check prices on guns or ammo.

Was in Bills in Robinsdale on Sunday and they still had a few not a huge selection though. Was going to use the range….2 hour wait changed my mind. Oh well.

The situation is getting worse by the day.

I never foresaw the need to stock up on coyote loads as 00 buck is always on the shelf and although I might wish it, it’s not like I burn through a lot of it.

So, of course, I’m now down to my last box of 5 so time to get more. Went to Fleet tonight and the ammo isle is almost cleaned out. Really, really dire.

I gut lucky and found some Wolf brand was still in stock. I wouldn’t normally buy that brand, but any port in a storm.

I asked the clerks behind the gun counter when more supply was coming and he said that’s what everyone would like to know.

I found a bunch of .223 in Dunham’s in Aberdeen, SD last night.

Grouse – Cabelas had a ton of 00 buck last weekend in Rogers. Most of it was 2 3/4 though.

Other than .223 which is out everywhere I have been continuously shocked to see the Gander in Woodbury with the best selection around. They still have pistol ammo readily available however no more sale prices. Everything is steep now. Was at Mills in Oakdale last night and they dont even have popular pistol ammo. I have been steadily stocking up on 9mm since I have two new 9’s and would like to shoot them in the future.

    Prices weren’t great.

    $7.99 – FMJ 20 rounds
    $8.99 – Hollow Points – 20 rounds

The remington stuff was $30.00 a box. Winchester was $25.00.

They also had huge cans of 7.62 for $120.00, not sure how many rounds were in them.

They didn’t have much of a selection in the 22-250 so I passed on all ammo.

And of course I was out there just after Christmas and it never crossed my mind to even look.

Last year I started to make an effort NOT to keep so much ammo in my stockpile. It had gotten a little out of hand, especially since my dad decideded to get out of the handloading game and instead just use my gear for his occasional small batches.

Now, of course, I wish I hand kept a much larger stock of both finished ammo and reloading components. When we left for the last PD trip to SD, I had over 3000 rounds of centerfire small bore for 3 people. I never reloaded it and now I can’t reload it because I don’t have primers or powder. Ug.

Other stuff I’d just rather not have to have a lot of it laying around. I mean, seriously, I’d love to say I use a hundred rounds of buck on coyotes every year, but in reality I’ll be lucky if I shoot 10. That makes it a PITA to have a shelf full of buck that will last a decade, but maybe that’s where all this is headed if you want to have the ammo you need, when you need it.
