Recoil Pad?

Christmas is going to be a blast (pun intended) for my boys this year…as we’ve purchased them each a 20 gauge Remington Youth 870 Express. They’re 9 & 12.

They come with laminate stocks and hard rubber recoil pads. I’d like to upgrade the pads to something better, but can’t seem to find (online) if Sims or Remington or whoever makes them for this model. Yeah, I could do a grind-to-fit if needed but I’d rather not.

    Advice?

We put a Sims recoil pad on my son’s 20 ga. 870 Express a few years ago and it worked great. Sims doesn’t make a pad specifically for the Express, so we put the Wingmaster version on instead. A little end grain wood was visible but that is fine. We covered that up with a brown wood marker.

Those little 870s are great guns. I grew up shooting one, and still occasionally take it out to do some pheasant hunting.

Just an idea, but have you looked into the limbsaver slip-on recoil pads? Just thinking that I could have used one when I was that young, but as I aged it was not needed. They make several sizes. Something they could take off without damage or much work after a few years. Just a thought. Good luck finding what your looking for

Limbsaver offers an exact fit replacement pad and it seems to me that I’ve seen Remington offering a soft cell replacement too. Think I saw that at Fleet Farm…… possibly Gander. Anyway, the soft cell pads rock IMHO and I have a small collection of Limbsavers. Very good recoil reducers!
