I am learning how to call Coyotes and setups can be some distance apart, so there are times walking I cover some ground. I wanted a light weight AR 223 for a carry weapon. Calling Coyotes I have enough to carry so weight is a constant concern for me.

With some help I settled on a Rock River upper and Rock River lower with a 16 inch 1-8 twist, which should handle different weight bullets well, with PlumCrazy stocks. These choices were do to keeping weight at a minimum. 16 inch barrel was a hard choice as far as distance shooting goes up to 300 yards should be a tack driver after that any ones guess. If we lived on the prairie states I would of opted for a 20 inch or longer, a 20 makes 600 yards shots possible, but added weight.

The scope is a Barska Sniper scope 4X16X50 IR I had laying around. Which may get changed in the future due to the bulkiness and added weight.

Minus the one point sling which had to be ordered it comes in at 5.7 lbs with a full 10 shot clip.

Dave at General Coin and Gun in EauClaire set it up. Minus scope and sling with tax came to $622. Great service and reasonable.

How do you like this set up? I don’t know much about Rock River, but do like their prices! I have only played around with DPMS.

John they both make quality components. Olympia is another quality manufacturer. When it comes to ARs reading the internet one can get information overload. Being this is my first AR I wanted to keep costs reasonable just in case I would not like it. Shooting it so far is way fun. I am working on getting my loads down to see which ones this AR likes the best.
