I’d like to get a big, heavy, solid beanfield tack driving rifle. I love Remington 700’s, so the Sendero is my gold standard as far as “stock rifles” go. Sendero’s cost about $1200.
What are my options for going custom? Can I get a custom gun at about the same cost as the Sendero?
Not even sure where to start. Just trying to see my options.
This part is probably irrelevant, but looking at 7mm Rem mag.
Thanks!
November 2, 2011 at 1:49 pm #113657Kind of ironic that you and I are looking at nearly the same options. I’m doing a 7mm Ultra mag myself. For me, I started with identifying all the component “must-haves”. Stock style, action, trigger, barrel, and then all the finer details that will make it the tack gun I want. So far, I’m at about $2200 for a fully custom M-1500 action, barrel, stock, and all the smithing.
I’ve read a lot of good reports on the sendaro, and you can get it for well under 1200 if you shop around. Like anything, you get what you pay for, and it is still a “mass-manufactured” process with a wider range of tolerances than a custom. My big hang up right now is that $1K and if I’ll shoot enough long range stuff (800 yrds and up) to fully enjoy the investment.November 2, 2011 at 3:11 pm #113669Whittsend,
If money weren’t an object I would look at Christensen Arms. The Carbon hunter starts at about 2k up to the carbon custom that is around 5k. But this is only in my dreams.

Scheels was $1200, Cabelas the same I think. Gander wanted $1400. ( ????) I wonder if Remington will have a sale/rebate program on 700’s sometime in the next year.
I’ll have to price out some smaller stores in the area.
Thanks!
November 3, 2011 at 3:27 am #113760Wow, it went up a couple hundred bucks since I did the last Gun Genie search – or at least for your zip code $1,108.99 plus tax and fee was the best I found near you

Randy – I started a new thread under “custom rifle”, but you answered a lot of my questions already in this post… Where do you get your cost figures and/or who are you talking to about doing the work on your custom gun? Someone local, some intermediary person or company, or does Howa themselves do the work? (I assume Howa since you said M-1500…)
Thanks!
