Looking to buy a over/under

Hi guys, I’m looking to get into a over/under 12 gauge. What’s a good, priced right gun I should look at? Doesn’t have to be fancy. Anybody have a Stoeger?
August 9, 2011 at 8:58 pm #108247I don’t mind the Stoeger’s. I like the baikal’s and the Charles Daly’s. Charles Daly has closed it’s doors I think, really like the way they fit me though. Winchester makes some lower end O/U’s that seem to be pretty popular with the guys at my gun club. Your best bet is to pull them up and decide which one fits you best. Most guys at a gun club will let you put a few rounds through a bunch of different guns.

Baikal, Stoeger, and CZ will offer you “similar” performance, with some of the CZ models giving you a little more. I, myself, am into synthetic guns and not into “pretty”. I am having a difficult time finding a synthetic adult sized 20 gauge!
Honestly, I don’t believe that a $1000++ shotgun has any place in the places that I bird hunt, so I would like to keep the price under $500.
Stoeger has a good line for a fair price, depending on the quality, # of barrels included etc.
I am also fond of side by sides, so maybe look into picking one of those up!August 10, 2011 at 1:40 pm #108301My bro-in-law has a Stoeger. It’s alright. It’s too small for me, but I am bigger than average. I do remember something (firing pin, maybe) broke, but he got it fixed.
August 10, 2011 at 4:14 pm #108306The CZ I have is now $893. I bought mine about 5 years ago and paid under $600. Synthetics have their place. Where would a guy hunt with an O/U where a solid Walnut stock or forearm would take a beating, anymore than a synthetic would ? $500 over/unders are exactly that… $500 fit and finish. While I agree a pretty gun won’t aim itself, by the same token, any girl can dance, but I won’t dance with just any girl either…
August 10, 2011 at 8:04 pm #108315I would look closely at the Stevens(Savage) Gold Wing shotguns. They make 410, 28, 20, and 12ga guns on their own gauge specific frames. They come with a Turkish walnut stock, chrome lined barrels, brass mid bead, gold plated single selective mechanical trigger, and monoblack construction. Includes a black chrome receiver with a raised gold pheasant and Schnabel forearm. They are available in 26 inch barrel with choke tubes for around $600 retail. I own a 20ga, 16ga, and 12ga in the Browning Citori’s and found the Gold Wing to be an excellent shooter. Good Luck!

I have to hike in to the top of the bluffs in most places to hunt corn, CRP, and “goat” prairies to have any chance at getting birds. For me, this means beating my gear up, so that is why I go cheap. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to own a Ruger Red Label someday, but today it has no application in the way that I hunt. Good thing there are many different companies that cater to us! This relates to all things (besides archery equipment ) but I don’t spend a lot of money on guns. I own glocks, mossbergs, and marlins, but they kill just as well as anything else.
