So the past few months I have been shooting on a trap league and the more I shot the more I want a new gun, so I was wondering what you all like for over under guns that wont break the bank. Any pros and cons you can give me about a gun would be great.

What constitutes breaking the bank? That would help. For me personally, I like the Ruger Red Label. But that’s becuase the Ruger is a great fit for me and it just feels right. I would worry about fit more than I would price.

I’ll be interested in some replies, too, because I have been toying with the idea of an O/U and don’t want to break the bank. For me, that means an upper end around $750.

My brother-in-law has a Stoeger Condor 20 gauge and I would say it is “OK”. It shoots pretty nicely. I do know he broke a firing pin on it. It’s a bit small for me, but then again, I am a pretty big guy and he is not.

Red Label for me. I love that gun. Pretty darn tough to beat a Ruger

For $1500, I would expect a nice gun

So what would you expect $2500-$3000 for a shotgun would get you?

I’d expect to be exploding an awful lot of clays
Seriously, I am sure you get what you pay for, but for a weekend shooter, there have got to be some affordable, adequate options out there

I have This One and love it !! I went from a 12 gauge pump and breaking 5 of 10 as a once in awhile clay shooter, to a good 8 of 10, immediately !! It was unreal

I personaly have always been a huge fan of browning citoris. I have never owned one but have shot a bunch and they fit me awesome. The only o/u i have owed was a remington peerless. I could shoot that thing like no one else. But i sold it since it had 3 inches cut off the stock and i out grew it. If you are looking for just a singles trap gun the browning bt-99 is also a sweet shooting gun. What makes you want an O/U???? There is a boat load of semi-autos out there that are ideal for trap. By far the best gun i have ever shoot with trap was a browning gold fully camo duck gun!! As long as it fits you go with it. Also it can be a universal gun to. Let us know what you decide to get. Hope this helped.

Don’t rule out a side X side. Not many people shoot them. Not sure if they can’t shoot them or uncomfortable with them.

The only thing that doesn’t fit this conversation is finding a good side X side under $1500 is pretty tough. However you get up in the $3000 range and there are some awesome shooting side X sides out there.

I’ve always liked the looks and concept of side by sides. My bro-in-law has a Stoeger Uplander with double triggers, too, and I just find it weird to shoot. Might be different if it was mine and I shot it consistently, but it’s a different beast to get used to.

Not even if I had Bill Gate’s money. Give me a Benelli and I’m set for just about anything I’d ever do with a shotgun.

    Here’s a nice side-by-side!

Who would ever pay $130K for a shotgun???

You’d have to admit. It’s a beautiful shotgun. I’d say 7.5k is about my limit. There is a point though that it’s hard to wrap your brain around getting out there and using something you paid that much for. I can’t wait for my bro to get his own quality shotgun. I cringe every time he crosses a fence with my guns. I can just imaging him scratching it on the barbwire or knocking it over when he set it down incorrectly.

However all my shotguns are working tools and are out there doing what they were made to do.
