Glock 19 vs. Springfield XDM

Question for you guys. Do any of you have experience with either of these pistols?

My brother’s GF is graduating from a Criminal Justice program and he wants to get her a new toy for graduation.

We are leaning towards the XDM as most departments issue the Glock as a standard issue. The XDM would be another toy to play with different from the Glock. Any insight would be appreciated.

I have an XDM in .40 and realy like it. wish you didn’t have to buy all the extra junk with it but the gun is acurate and nice to shoot. The diferant back straps that come with it do help to fit it to your hand better. The factory sights aren’t that bad either.

Is this a surprise gift? The reason I ask is that I would make the decision based on how the gun fits her hand. I know a lot of folks like them, but the Glocks I have shot are just uncomfortable in my hands. I found the XDs fit me way better. Could be totally different for her, but you won’t know without holding them. Both are good guns, so I would chose based on fit. She’ll shoot better with a gun that she likes the feel of.

It was going to be Ralph. But after helping my Bro shop yesterday I convinced him that he should hand her a nice card and and tell her “let’s go shopping”. Just for the comfort/fit reason.

I think that’s best. Let us know what they get

I have the Glock 26 (short fat grip from double stacking) and just sold my XD-45.

The ONLY reason I didn’t sell the Glock is because the 45 weighs a ton for everyday carry. Actually the weapon it self isn’t that heavy, it’s the 14+1 ammo. Don’t take that the wrong way, there’s nothing wrong with my 26 that a lazer grip didn’t cure.

I would rate the XD one above the 19 from the factory.

    Im the owner of 3 Glocks. G17L, G17gen4, and a G20 10mm.
If you choose to go with the Glock I would say the gen3’s are easier to shoot. The trigger on my gen4 9mm is alot different. Glocks are really easy to work on. Both weapons are built very well. Ifs all about how it fits and feels tho. Ive had a 19 and sold it because it just felt too small. Good luck!
