I’ve never bought ammo online before. Do any of you have luck buying online, or does it not really save you any money? If you buy online, where do you buy from?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Ammo with an attitude.

It’s been a while, but I’ve used these guys before. Watch the shipping prices with any on line ammo order.

Sometimes I’ve found your local Walmart is less expensive. Ask about case discounts too.

Yeah, Walmart is usually my stand-by, but their selection isn’t always great. I’ll have to ask about case discounts.

    What? No .357 Mag?

That’s why I started to purchase from sportsman’s guide. For me, they have a great selection of .357 mags to choose from.

Looks like they do have a good selection. How are their shipping prices?

Depending on what you order, between $7 – $10 usually. The more you order, the better the deal on shipping. If I can, I wait and purchase a few things at a time so I can get a discount on shipping.

I really like the SportsmansGuide prices. If I buy ammo online, it’s about availability rather than the expenditure. I know a good price when I see one so I’ll pay the shipping (vs. the gas tank) to have it delivered rather than search around for the ammo I want. Even if WalMart has it, sometimes the shelf is empty and next thing I know, I’m at a shipping charge’s difference in the gas tank AND, at a time loss!

My classic example is .41 Mag. I can’t “just go get it” ANYWHERE! So ordering is necessary and a good price is a good price. In most cases, the only hiccup I run into is not being home for the delivery and I have to get one of those “come get your junk out of our way” notices from USPS.

So, do you have to be there, or just someone over 21? My wife works from home, so if it’s just someone over 21, it’s not a problem.

Different services have different policies. UPS actually set up a delivery zone because they refused to be liable for leaving ammo unattended on a doorstep. I think it’s actually illegal to deliver pistol ammo to anyone under 21 as well. Anyway, I’ve had USPS leave my package in the box as well as been given a notice of a suspended delivery. I’ve never taken a delivery via FED EX or Speedy so I’m not sure what you might run into there.

If a delivery window can ba established, like UPS did, that seems to be the more reassuring method. Lost ammo would concern me! But until you talk to your post office about it, I’m not sure what they really want you to do.

You know, it’s been awhile since I last bought some ammo and it just dawned on me that I think the tripline in the process is actually up to the shipper. If USPS knows a specific package needs to have a legal recipient, they just might send you a slip instead of even attempting a delivery. Every time I’ve had to go pick up a package, they’ve verified I’m the person on the address label. Again, this hasn’t been often but it has happened.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your shipper and see what they know, or at least what service takes their ammo shipments and then you can contact that service to see what is expected or what can be arranged.

really? Because 3 weeks ago UPS dropped 2 or 3 cases of 12 gauge at my door. and it’s not like it was a secret as each case was as is. White Box that said Winchester in big read letters on 4 sides and the top.

I wonder if UPS didn’t leave mine because it was handgun ammo? I tell ya, I’m to the point of wondering if the only variance that really exists is who’s working that day?!?! This last summer a friend of mine had 20 lobsters shipped from Maine and UPS left that unattended without a signature too. Clearly an OOPS! from the delivery person and ended up costing UPS some insurance cash. But seriously, I wonder if some of these people are even doing the job they’re supposed to be…….
