I have been checking these guns out and notice some have thumb safety’s and some don’t. I don’t see a palm safety on them so what is the safety on them. Does anyone know if a thumb safety can be added to them? It looks as though they have a filler peice in the ones with out the thumb safety. Thanks for any info you guys might have.

From what I have read, the orginal M&Ps use a trigger safety and no thumb or backstrap safety.

It looks like they now offer most (if not all) models with and without thumb safeties, so if you’d prefer a pistol with one, you should be able to get it.

Thanks I was thnking that was all they had. That trigger safety to me realy isn’t much of a safety. I’m just checking every thing out on a few diferant guns befor I buy one.

Yeah, I guess it keeps the gun from firing unless you squeeze the trigger (i.e. won’t fire if you drop it or something), and since one’s finger shouldn’t be on the trigger until ready to squeeze, that is safety enough. Plus, it looks like they’re double-action only guns, so S&W probably feels that the trigger safety along with the heavy trigger pull of a DAO gun makes a thumb safety unnecessary.

But, I am guessing that since they started making thumb safety models, people must have been asking for it.

I agree on the finger not on the trigger part. I guess its more in my head that I didn’t put the gun on safe that makes me nervouse about it. Just used to guns with manual safeties. I’m sure with experience with this kind of set up I’ll get used to it. Looks like alot of manufacterers are going to that. Even with the palm safety as soon as you pick the gun up that safety is off. Thanks for pointing out the double action part I didn’t notice that and that does make a diferance on the thumb safety issue.

Both trigger options are pretty smooth.
