I’m in the process of making one of these for cleaning, maintenance and scope mounting purposes… I have some 1 x 8″ Aspen that I’m going to try. If that works, I have some cherry sitting around that I might try next….

Any recommendations regarding any changes that you might make as far as design? The only thing that I don’t much care for is that guns will generally sit pretty much horizontal. This is great for mounting or leveling a scope, but for gun cleaning it might be nicer to have the barrel angled downwards so the solvents don’t backwash into the action… I could possibly raise the rear upright and/or put an extra (lower) hole for the barrel in the front upright… (?)

    Any thoughts? Other improvement ideas?

I really like the simple clamp setup. One thing I would change is make the base wider or at least have the holders for cleaners etc on the back side of the rifle instead of in the way on the front side. Screws, parts, and tools can stay on the front side.

Edited to add. After looking at the pic again and seeing it on the egde of the bench….I am right handed so I want the barrel pointing to my left, that is how I would determine where I want my cleaning supplies.
