Reloading rifle rounds

For those of you who are reloading rifle rounds, are you doing it to save money or just have a better round? I have been saving all of my sons .243 casings with the thought of reloading as I will also be using it for yotes this winter. Just wondering what everyones intentions are when they reload. I know when I reloaded 12 gauge I saved money.
    Thanks, DT

Follow up question. What would a ball park price be to get into the reloading game for say a .243 and a .270wsm?

I reload .243 , 204, 30-06 to get a more accurate round. There is a certain load that will shoot 1 hole groups in your rifle if ya can find it.Like my 204 it took me almost a year to find it. All guns are different too. A rifle almost identical won’t like the same load yours does. It might be close but not perfect. As far as cost to get set-up I really don’t know. My press is over 40 years old. If i was to start I’d buy a RCBS kit. Add to it as you need. I’m thinking of upgrading to a Dillon progressive. I’d highly recomend loading its very gratifying when you find that sweet load.

X2. For me, its all about the accuracy. Once I get a load dialed in for a rifle, its a little cheaper.

Excluding your time, cost will be approx. for your 243. At about 45g / round, you will get about 150 charges. Powder is about $25.00/ pound (17 cents each)

Bullets are a big variable. I am a huge fan of Barnes for my hunting bullets. T%hey are about twice the cost of Hornady or Sierra.

Federal Premium Primers are about $35./1000

For equipment, Lyman, Dillon, and RCBS all have kits available that range $300 and up. Figure double the cost of your kit for all the specialty stuff you’ll buy.

I’ve been reloading for a few years, and still learning…sometimes the hard way. If you know of anyone local to you that reloads, hang out with them for a day and learn all you can

For rifle it’s mostly for making the perfect round for the gun. In the end you do save a little though. RCBS rock chucker works great for a first reloading set up. Stop out to Gun Stop Inc out in Excelsior, it the best reloading store around. John the owner knows a ton and has about ever makeand model.
