    Riplinger,WI. – 500 Yard Cold Bore Event

Events like this do keep me out of the treestands – just to much fun

Cold Bore events – you have one opportunity to get it done, no warm up shots or sight ins, when your numbers called you have one chance to make the hit. I like these type of events they make you think about what’s happening around you with the wind and so forth

We had a good group of shooters again this last Saturday at the 500 yard cold bore event; winds were from 7-8 o’clock at 9 to 14 mph gusting in the mid 20s,

Four folks hit the 6” orange dot,
One of them hit the 1” black diamond in the middle – that was me

    Earlier in the day

I also shot at another 500 yard range different angle and wind conditions and my one shot nailed the ring that goes around the diamond in the middle of the 6” dot.

    A good day for sure

Awesome shooting! That is proof that if you want to be a good long range shooter, practice, practice, and more practice.

BTW, my daughter thinks she’s taking over the HOWA…..Her new long range squirrel gun LOL

    Thanks Randy

You may be building another HOWA from looks of the picture, a good deal for sure!

Jeff, what rifle/scope/ammo combination are you shooting?

    Les

My setup is a 338 Lapua Mag.

Ammo – 300 gr. Lapua Scenars
Scope – Vortex Razor HD 5-20×50 with the EBR-3 MRAD reticle
Rifle – Bolt action Barrett model 98B chambered for the 338 LM

I did a little home work and was able to put this together at a fair price, I do know that you can setup a great shooting gun cheaper with using different calibers and so forth but there are also folks that I shoot with or against that have some custom built rifles costing a lot more then I handed out.

I’m not claiming to be the best shot out there, but I can say I have a lot of fun shooting and have done well shooting out to 880. I’m just passing along some info on the events thinking that some folks may want to give it a try someday.

You’re not that far away if you ever want to hookup and take a look or send a few down range let me know?

Where is Marshfield in relation to Eau Claire Jeff? We’re moving to Eau Claire and I’m going to find a new range to shoot at.

IN EC —- EC Rod and Gun Club, Westgate Sportsman’s club, EC National Rifle club (http://www.ecnrc.org/), plus multiple other ranges in the area/region…

Marshfield is roughly 1.5 hours east of EC.

    Welcome to EC, BTW!

If you will have land or know someone who does, you could think about building your own range… I put one up at my buddies place – two very rock solid benches, and targets out to 400…

    Jeff,

Thanks for the offer! I will most likely take you up on it.

I am looking at putting together a 1000 yard rifle. When I got into archery so heavy, I kind of gave up on the guns. I think it will be fun to put some challenge back into the rifle, and if I move about 10 of the guns that I no longer use, it won’t cost me much. Cooper introduced a new Magnum line this week, that looks pretty nice. 1000 yard MOA…should be fun.

    Thanks again,

    Les
