My neighbor has two cabins in the same spot, we are hoping that none of those were his families.
No matter what, how could somebody do such a thing.

Guys i live about 15 min from there, what a tragedy for sure, there are lots of cabins there
I know the area well as I have a buddy there, and drive by it on the way to Mille Lacs. They think it may have started in Aitkin…They believe the string of arsons may be related.
Sadly We have a family friend who’s Cabin was one of the complete loss cabins. And knowing our friend Who ever did this better hope the the police find him 1st because other wise it wont be pretty. Hope everyone else who has a cabin in the area had better luck.
What a shame! My heart goes out to them!
Were these the cabins along 18 or across the lake?
our friends had a cabin across the Lake. Good News is they were already planning to build a new place up there. However they weren’t planning on doing it so soon. Oh well Main thing is NO ONE was hurt. Looks like Memorial will be a working weekend for us now though.
Hey Maybe they can get who ever did this by then, and all the home owners can take turns putting him on a 100′ chain, and watching him do some of the work that weekend.
I think they will catch who did this. It seems more than one person was involved and when that happens someone in the group will start bragging about it.
For those of you who don’t know, just off Hwy 10, south of St Cloud about a mile, there is a Gun Range, which has been there for over 30 years. It is called DelTone/ Luth Gun Range, Panther Arms(DPSM), is also located right there. Anyways, I used to be a member out there, when I was younger and had more time to shoot, so tonight I look at the mail and there is a letter, informing that Sherburne County had filed a suit against the club, back in June, because their use permit, said it was a rifle range, but handguns were also being shot ??? What ??? They have been shooting handguns there forever… now it is an issue ? Because of some words on a piece of paper, they have not been allowed to shoot handguns since June. Just wanted to let anyone know who is interested, there are a couple meetings scheduled, to apply for the use of handguns also, the first will be Aug 16th at 7:00PM at Haven Township Hall, located at 4230 45th ave SE, St Cloud. They are asking for any supporters who can make it, to wear a red and black shirt if possible. I am planning to attend.
Im not a big fan of handguns but I agree totaly bogus, hope all goes well for you guys!
I shoot there quite a bit. Also have been to all the Outbreak shoots and alot of the 3-gunsw. I’m going to try to be there with one of my DPMS shirts on!

Fellow Shooters;
As many of you know, shooting ranges and firearms owners face on going battles regarding the exercise of our constitutional rights. Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club recently found itself in the middle of one of these battles. For more than 30 years our gun club has been the site of a shooting range where rifles and handguns have been used by many. However, recently we have come under attack for allowing the use of handguns on our range. Sherburne County has served us with a lawsuit alleging that handgun use is not permitted at Del-Tone. On June 7, Sherburne County Zoning/Attorney issued a Demand letter, which indicates that we are in violation of a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) that was issued in 1995 for a Trap Range & Rifle Range, even though all types of firearms have been shot at the range prior to 1995. In an effort to resolve the issue I asked for a meeting which was granted on June 21st. At that meeting I was served a summons by the Sheriffs Office that initiates a law suit against Del-tone for violation of the CUP for shooting handguns.
Fortunately, this law suit is on the back burner to see if we can work out the issue, however, at this time we have been forced to cease shooting handguns, since June 8th.
Initially I was hoping to resolve the CUP issue without legal counsel, however when I was served the summons for violating the CUP (Rifle Range vs. Shooting Range (handguns)), I noticed in the summons that the County Attorney also included a violation of allowing “rapid fire weapons” which I have no clue what a “rapid fire weapon” is? With this additional restriction of “rapid fire weapons” included in the summons, I decided to hire legal counsel.
Basically what has happened is the Sherburne County Attorneys’ office has filed a law suit against the club/range for shooting handguns because the 1995 CUP was submitted as a “Rifle range”. Obviously handguns have been shot at this gun club for over 30 years with no issues. As it pertains to rapid fire weapons, we do not allow rapid fire shooting on the gun ranges as a good neighbor gesture to the few homes in the surrounding area. If in fact the County is referring to “select fire weapons” such as machine guns or full auto firearms, we have a policy that full auto is not allowed for business reasons and not because it violates any state, federal or local zoning restrictions.
In the meantime we continue to lose income from the loss of CCW classes, the loss of Cowboy Action Shooting (SASS), the loss of daily handgun shooters, the loss of law enforcement shooters who need to remain proficient, the loss of 3 gun events, training & safety classes, and unfortunately the cancellation of the DPMS/Brownells Tri-Gun Challenge which brings approximately $300,000.00 to hotels, restaurants, bars, etc., to the St. Cloud area.
As we were preparing to address the handgun issue, on July 21st we were notified by the Zoning Department that the Rifle Range is not technically located on the proper plat that the 1994 conditional use permit was applied for. Obviously the previous owner built the Rifle/Gun Ranges on what they assumed was the correct plat. However the County has determined that the Rifle Range was built to far to the east on the adjacent plat which is also owned by the Gun Club.
The County now has demanded that the entire Rifle Range be closed until we apply for a New CUP.
Upon receipt of this demand letter to shut down the entire rifle range, we filed an appeal with the County Board of Adjustments. The meeting for the Board of Adjustments has been tabled for a future date so that we may gather additional facts. In the meantime the Rifle Range remains open with no handguns allowed.
This week we are scheduled to have the Range evaluated by an NRA Range Consultant, which was mutually agreed upon, by Deltone and Sherburne County. Regardless of the suggestions, if any, to improve the Range, we are willing to do so.
To resolve the issues we must appear before the Haven Township Board:
On Aug. 16th at 7:00 PM where we will present a New CUP application for the use of all types of firearms per State Law 87A and to correct the plat lines as they pertain to our Range. This meeting will be held at;
Haven Township Hall; 4230 45th Avenue SE St Cloud MN 56304 http://haventwpmn.govoffice2.com
(Located on Hwy 10, SE of State Prison approx 3 miles on 45th)
Then on Aug 19th at 6:30 PM we meet with the Sherburne County Planning Commission, to present the same CUP requests and the Haven Township comments. This meeting will be held at the Government Center in Elk River, 13880 Hwy 10 Business Center Dr., Elk River, MN 55330
I appreciate all the support you have shown and patience from our friends, members, & customers and you can rest assured that we will fight this case diligently. It is our intention and always has been to provide a safe range as well as a responsible range. The last thing we want or any of our shooters want is a round to leave the range or to allow irresponsible practices or policies.
We hope that you will be able to attend these two meetings and we would ask that all Pro-range supporters wear a RED or BLACK shirt. We also ask all shooters to act professionally; we know the emotion that can arise with these topics. (Please feel free to make comments at the podium).
“Please Attend the Upcoming Meetings!”
Sincerely,

You Can Help!
Please help us by calling your local County Commissioner or Representative and let them know how important range preservation is to you. Having a right with nowhere to exercise that right is no right at all.

Anyone else heading to this tonight?
I can’t, but have placed a few phone calls. I will continue with calls this afternoon.
If anyone cares the Conditional Use Permitt approved will go in front of the board the day after labor day.
Thanks for the update Life!
Do you know what the range had issues with as far a conditions of the permit?
Well first the pistols on the range. And they are triing to clairify what the county means by rapid fire weapons. Because if the mean full-auto they already and not allowed on the range. If they are laking about the AR types then that is a whole other problem. And I guess the original owner was supposed to build on a certain plat and build on the wrong one. But it has been that way since day one and they thought it was right when originally built. Either way they already own the plat and the surounding ones so it shouldn’t matter.
If anyone wants to read it. Here is the other side of the story on the DelTone-Luth Range problems and why they came about. From the St. Cloud Times.
