As mentioned before I’m not a ballistics type of guy. I was wondering on what .243 guns in bolt action that you guys liked for being a good all around accurate gun!

My Ol’ Man is down sizing from his 30.06 and when the time comes the Gun will end up in my cabinet for my wife Stacie to shoot out in Western SD and our lil guy Gage to shoot when its time!

Thanks for any and all input!

    Remington 700.

I have the 700 SPS Varmint in .243 – A little heavier barrel and comes with two swivel studs for sling/bipods if wanted..

To quote Dumb and Dumber… “I like it a lot”

Anyway, that gun is a tack driver (all stock, nothing altered, no work done), and I have shot near 1/2 MOA at 400 yards.

I like my Ruger Mark II SS w/ composite stock. i put a Nikon ProStaff 3x9x50 on it and it does the trick. i haven’t shot anything w/ it and have only had it at the range (2) times since i bought it 3 years ago. very accurate

I think you will find many options for a good rifle chambered in .243…For the use that you described, you won’t be dissapointed in a .243… Remington 700 is a nice rifle. Savage makes some nice rifles as well, A lot of people like their adjustable “AccuTrigger”

Most of the options will shoot great out of the box. Make sure to see what feels good too. For example, It drives me nuts to work a bolt on Browning rifles. But Remington, Savage, and others feel just fine.

    Good Luck in your search!

I know my dad loves his Winchester Model 70 .243! That gun is a tack driver with it sometimes hard to tell if he completly missed the target or is he hitting in the same hole. I believe his a pre’64 model. Bobss can attest to one fox that was way way way out there that didn’t make it!. That was years back but the gun still shoots the same.

Also this gun took down more than one canandian whitetail out to 400 yards!

Rob, before you make the purchase, take a close look at a Howa M1500 Sportster. As a guide and outfitter, I am absolutely sold on the quality of the M1500 action – directly out of the box. They are reasonably priced for what you get. .243 is available in blued or stainless, and laminate thumbhole stock. Also, as I found for my Dad,(now 80 years old) the raised cheek pad is a great feature.
I have a review written on the Howa in a 22-250 with a Burris XTR Tactical scope here on IDO. For the $$$, the best investment in firearms I have ever made.

If money is not a problem you could not go wrong with the x-bolt in 243, I will be buying one here shortly.

On the economy side, I have a Mossberg ATR 100 in .243 and so far I’m in complete agreement with the reviews I’ve read…..amazing accuracy, trigger pull, bolt slides free and easy but not sloppy, and costs less than $300 for a blued model. I have a Rem 700 in .270win and honestly, I want to dump it and find another ATR to put in the cabinet. Plain Jane synthetic stock, but does come with an awesome recoil pad. The Rem is prettier, certainly more popular, but it’s shooting manners are disappointing to me. So far, the ATR .243 has been as good or better in every way. One day…..in the not too distant future…. I’ll be selling the Rem ADL 700. Also shot a friend’s Rem ADL 700 in .243 and again, I’d say I was less than impressed and unsure what makes the Rem’s so popular?
