I’m planning on going out with the muzzleloader this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Just wondering what you guys do. Should I leave the load in the gun for the whole weekend (looks like it is going to be cold), should I leave it in the gun and in the car so it stays the same temperature and condensation doesn’t form. I am going on public land so I don’t really feel like just taking a shot at the end of the day. Has anyone ever pulled the breech plug out and push the load out. About a month ago I used the muzzleloader and didn’t shoot it out at the end of the hunt, then two weeks later I went to shoot at the target and it didn’t fire like it should and I missed because of the delay. I stored it in the safe along with the packs that you put in there to keep the moisture down. I just don’t want it to not fire correctly when I have a deer in front of me. Thanks for the suggestions.

you can leave it packed in the gun but i would not leave it for more than the weekend.I have done this and had no problems and I shot this deer 4 days after loading. I have pulled out the breech plug and pushed the load out it sometimes takes a little effort but can be done hope this helps and good luck hunting

For a weekend hunt I would leave the load in, any longer and I would unload. I cover the muzzle with a balloon, saran wrap, condom etc. and keep in an unheated entry way. this has always worked for me. Have fun.

same here… I keep the gun as close to the outside temp as I can by keeping it in the garage, shed, etc. If I need to change out loads I just pull the breech plug and push it through.

I leave the load in for the weekend but I do remove the primer cap before I case the gun.

    Good luck.

All I use is a muzzleloader and I never unload mine during the season. I always keep it outside or in the truck bed. Between the season I always empty and clean the gun, firing a few primers through the gun before casing it after the cleaning.I have never had a problem and have smoked 11 with it so far

Same with me. Unless I shoot at something the load stays in the whole season. I have never had a problem. Just keep the gun in a stable cool place and you will be fine

I had mine loaded until the next season, (we moved during the muzzle loader season) put a primer in it still dead on and no damage to the barrel, though not recomended.

Keep it cold and no problems! I load it at the start of muzzleloader and keep it outside until the end of the season, never any problems!

Does anyone put a piece of elec. tape on the end of the barrel to keep snow / rain out, is it safe to do?

I’ve heard of condoms – but never black tape.

stark…different strokes for different folks. if your setup did not shoot well after leaving the charge in, than don’t do it. My point is, confidence in your equipment…maybe your gun, powder/pellets, sabot etc just won’t keep well loaded up.

Same as above.I keep a load in the whole season,no problems.I leave it in the garage.Push the load out if you want to unload it.Sometimes you have to push it out backwards depending on your bullet.I dont use condoms…….
