Last year, I came to the conclusion it was time to replace my savage 22-250. I spent about 5 months researching / debating building a custom or buying stock. After all the reviews, I settled up on a Howa M1500 sportster 22-250 with the thumbhole stock. I have my first 250 rounds through it now, and I couldn’t be more please with this factory nail gun.
I have it set up with a Burris Extreme Tactical scope. #1 purpose for this tool is to pop coyotes in the 300 to 500 yrd range. Hunting Western WI in the hills / valleys, I have a lot of coyotes that come charging into a field at 200 to 600 yrds and plop down and look stupid. I’m not exactly the most patient person, so I wanted something to take care of business.
After playing with a couple differnet loads, Barnes 53 gr TSX
Group of 3 is zero at 250 yrds
Other is a combination of 400 yrds and 530 yrds. Still getting the feel for the mil dots. Notice the one to the far left….a light gust of wind as I squeezed off that round. Wind does matter at over 500 yrds

Thought I would share as I am very ready for predator hunting again this year!

I just got a savage in 22-250 and I was wondering whaT DO YOU RUN FOR POWDER AND GRAINS w bullet I have used 38grs of 380 w 52gr hpmatch sierra bullets. Also can you hunt deer w them 22-250? do they shoot better after some rounds?

    Thanks Stan

Break-in proceedures for any firearm makes a huge difference if you want a long term tack driver! This Howa really settled down after about 100 round and got extremely after about 150 round.

Howas do shoot well, don’t they?

These are some targets from my SS Howa with the standard barrel and cheapy Houge stock. I did intend re stocking it, but I am loath to alter anything!

These were shot at 100m off a bench and the orange aiming dot is 1/2″ diameter..

My only dissappointment in the rifle is that its not very rust resistant…I know no stainless steel is truely rust proof but old Ruger All Weather is alot better in this respect..Its not a big deal, as I bought the Howa with the intention of Duracoating it anyway…

    Regards,

    Peter
