I am looking for a concealed carry revolver to buy. Any suggestions? I am mildly interested in the Ruger sp101 .327. Anyone familiar with this gun? Does it have sufficient stopping power for a CC weapon? Thanks!

Mr. EJ, Most folks I’ve talked to either say the .380 is the smallest they would use for protection or the .380 is too small…but something is better than nothing.
I was talking with a fella last night that carries a smith .38 .
He basically stated the same thing that most people say when they shoot a small framed gun…Can’t hit crap with it. 12 feet is a long shot.
Wheel gun= Dependable and less complicated for the opposite gender.
March 7, 2009 at 12:31 am #48332Bought my wife a S & W model 637 last spring. It is nice and compact. It is probably one of the most accurate small frame revolvers I have. I like it because it is so small. At 15 yards it is no problem to get a 2 or 3 inch group. And that is no lie.
March 7, 2009 at 3:04 am #48335Personally, I would stay away from the .327 only because it is a newer caliber and I would be concerned about its staying power on the market. I would much rather go with a .357/.38 because those are well established and its almost guaranteed that ammo will always be available for it.
I’ve never shot one, but I have heard good things about the Taurus snubbies. And you can never go wrong with a Ruger.
March 7, 2009 at 5:39 am #48341The Ruger wheelies are second to none for sure. Would I use a .327 Federal? You bet! The ballistics are very favorable. But the concern has been raised, will it be a long lasting caliber? Not if people keep shying away no. I do think, from what I’ve read on gun forums, most people really like that caliber.
Another gun option for the budget minded is the Charter Arms line of wheelies. They are certainly worth a look see.
March 7, 2009 at 4:35 pm #48344I like the taurus snubbies as well but for cal. I would choose a .44 special. Good stopping power with nominal recoil and with hand loads can be cranked up close to .44 mag specs.
March 7, 2009 at 5:06 pm #48345Have to agree on the Taurus wheelies. Have a Judge on hold and can’t wait to get it. Not the best for CCW maybe but it is an attention getter either way. Also I see they release the 5mm revolver again. Curious round to say the least. Not sure of cost or if it is effective for self defense or not. Still cool though.
April 29, 2009 at 9:25 pm #50871i just bought a ruger sp101 .357 with the 2 1/4 inch barrel. it would be small enough to carry. i would check that out or the new ruger LCR .38 special if you want something smaller

Just have to say on the Judge. I’ve got some 000buck for home defense and for giggles it’s been great on rodents and clay pigeons! Also, if you can find any 45LC from Hornady, it’s the best shootin’ 45LC I’ve come across and can usually be had around $20/box. As for CC, it’d better be cold out or you’ll never hide this brute!
June 30, 2009 at 3:36 am #53175The Judge flat out rocks! I ended up getting the 3″ magnum version. I haven’t shot slugs or 000 through it yet but have sent a couple hundred various other rounds down range with it. I love to rapid fire 3″, that’s an attention getter. Not a great long range gun by any means but it is intense blowing up full beer cans, water bottles, melons, and all sorts of other reactive targets at 3-6 yards. I’d hate to be on the wrong end when loaded with 000!
I experimented a bit and feel I could possibly conceal it with jeans and a untucked shirt. A guy on Ebay contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in a prototype IWB holster after he gets some made. I’m awaiting his specimen.
