With all this talk about the great 7mm-08 I have to take notice. I have never fired one or even paid attention to it but that will change. I will have to keep my eyes out for one for sure. Not sure what platform I’d prefer but likely a Ruger or Savage. No auto’s for me though. Heck maybe even a Remington slide in that caliber will be good. Wonder if they made them?

I OWN MANY OF THE GUNS LISTED IN THESE POSTS ALL OF THEM SHOOT GOOD BUT THOUGHT I’D MENTION A GUN I’D BOUGHT THIS SUMMER FOR HUNTING COYOTE’S AND PRONGHORN’S. ITS A SAVAGE AMERICAN CLASSIC. SAVAGE HAS DONE A FINE JOB FINISHING THIS GUN. I HUNTED PRONGHORN FOR A WEEK WITH IT IT PREFORMED FLAWLESSLY ! I LOVED IT DETACHABLE MAGAZINE AND THE ACCU-TRIGGER.THE HIGHLY BLUED ACTION AND THE HIGH GLOSS WALLNUT STOCK REMINDED ME OF GUNS THAT COST TWICE AS MUCH. FOR THE $500 I PAID I FELT IT WAS A BARGAIN! I ENDED UP SHOOTING A NEAR RECORD BOOK BUCK AT OVER 600 YARDS WITH A .243.AS FAR AS CALIBRE A 270 OR 3006 IS TOUGH TO BEAT. 243 FOR WHITETAILS WORK FINE AND DON’T BEAT YA UP AT THE RANGE EITHER.

Well, after A LOT of shopping around for a new rifle, I ended up buying a practically new used rifle. It’s funny, I bought the same thing I handed down!lol. Remington 7600 with a 2 by 7 Bausch and Lomb scope, hard case, sling, 4 boxes of shells, and 3 clips for 500. Not bad!

Wow, A lethal 600 yard shot with a .243! Congratulations, That’s one heck of a shot! I just checked out a ballistics chart and the average drop for 28 different rounds at 500yds was 40″, it didn’t go out to 600 yds. That’s quite a hold over.

    Ferny.

I’ve shot so many deer with my .243 that I no longer really need to worry about yardage. The gun seems to know what I am aiming for and it does the rest. I think last year it even cycled the action and picked up my empty for me! (Ok I’m exaggerating. The gun is my wife’s.)
