Picked up the new gun this past weekend, but unfortunately didn’t have too much time to use it as ML opened on Saturday. I understand it may be a little premature to write a full blown review, but here are a few things I noticed.
First off, it is a 28″ barrel in Max-4 HD.
1. Overall fit and finish is excellent, the only complaint would be some excess glue where the rubber inserts are placed, not much, but more than expected on a $1200 gun.
2. Cycled flawlessly out of the box. Only shot 1 bird with it, but sent about 50 rounds down range at some clays. First box was actually field loads, but followed up with a box of sporting loads. No issues.
3. They gooped,is that a word?, some awfully viscous lube in the gun from the factory. I shot the rounds with this excess lubrication with no problems, but followed it up by a thorough cleaning and some addition of Break Free. I really dislike excess lube on a gun, but I suppose too much is better than not enough.
4. Very, very impressed by the ease of disassembly and cleaning. I was actually leaning away from a Beretta and looking towards a Benelli for the “fewer” parts when cleaning. I am not sure it can get much easier than with the Xtrema2. If you are at all hesitant about buying a gas operated because of cleaning, check it out. They say every 500-1000 rounds to break it down and clean the piston, etc., but with the ease of doing it, I plan to do it during routine barrel cleaning.
5. Great accessory package including hard case, 5 chokes, drop/drift adjustment plates, butt stock insert plates, and even some Beretta oil.
Only time will tell on the durability and flawless cycling, I might be writing next week damning the thing, but for now, very satisfied.
