Looking for advise on the best rust prevention out there to put in the gun cabinet. I will be keeping my gun cabinet in the basement for a while and although it gets heated and cooled with the rest of the house, I am looking to put some rust prevention in the just in case.

What have you all found to be the best out there?

    Thanks in advance

I lightly coat my guns with Rem Oil. If your basement is subject to humidity, get a Desi-Pak of some kind, to keep the moisture issue at bay.

I clean each gun after every use and than put a coat of Rem. oil on when Im done, already. Was looking for some type of packet or something that is suppose to keep things from rusting. Like all the ads you seen on t.v.
(rust inhibitor, etc.) Looking for the best one out there.

Thanks for the tip though Big G

Eric my gun safe is also in the basement, I have one of THESE in my safe it works great. I also run a dehumidifier in the summer months when I am not running my central air. One other thing I have for a little extra insurance that might be hard to find, you know those little packets you get in a box when you buy some new electronics like a TV or a DVD player. Well I have one in my safe that is huge like a big bean bag. A big computer company that I use to work for would use them when they sent out there large tower computers.
I have never had and issue with any of my guns rusting while stored in my gun safe

I use inhibitor plugs. I also wipe them down with rem oil every few months and after each use. But, mine aren’t in the basement either, if that were the case I don’t know that I’d trust just the plugs, in addition I’d get a dehumidifier. Several different makes, golden rod, liberty, browning…etc.

If your basement is a real basement, you should probably be running a dehumidifier any how!
I do, coupled with a golden rod.
All of my buddies keep their guns in my safe, away from their young prospects, and I DO NOT HAVE RUST!
I have a good old fashioned 1931 home and a dehumidifier and golden rod do the trick
    cheers

you can try putting Corrosion X on your guns. i picked some up a few years ago and have yet to find a speck of rust on any gun that it is applied to. and it takes existing rust off. i know can be out in a snowfall all day, and put my deer gun(matte finish) in the case wet over night, take it out the next morning, and there is zero rust!
