We were out on 16 today. Wish I could say we did as well as you. We worked the wingdams as well but only got a small smallie to show for it. Still working on the plastics on wingdams technique. I know they are there, I just need to get out more. Glad you did well.

Nice fish Jig fan How long has pool 14 been in the slot regulations? Have you seen it to be of benefit? I know it has really helped pool 12.

It went into effect the same time as pool 12. There has been a significant increase in the average size of walleye in are pool . It was a rare thing to catch a five pound fish ten years ago. Now slot fish are easier to come by than keepers alot of days. I think the closing of the dams in the winter has a lot to do with the numbers rising. I wish they would do a little more to protect the saugers. I think 17 to 21 inchers should be protected. I also think any thing under 14 should be released. I’m not against cleaning a few fish but these guys at the dams keeping limits of 10 inchers every day of the week should be stopped. Let them grow up.

Regulations changed at different times in Ill and IA. Iowa closed the dam area in 2003, but you could still fish the Ill side of the channel that year. As far as I know, the slot went into effect at the same time. Here’s a quote from early March of 2004 from fishsqzr, of the Iowa DNR.

    Quote:

IL DID go along with the regulation change – except in IL the law does not go into effect until April 1, 2004. Until then, you can fish the IL side of the river (the middle of the navigation channel marks the state boundry between IA and IL) IF you have an IL resident or non-resident license. Neither IL nor IA anglers may fish on the IA side (west side of the middle of the navigation channel)from the L&D to the mouth of Mill Creek. AT Bellevue, the middle of the lock chamber (not auxillary lock) is considered the middle of the navigation channel. After April 1, 2004 all laws on the river will be the same and this will not be possible anymore, that is, come December 1, 2004 the tailwaters will be closed to both IA and IL anglers until March 15, 2005.

thanks john, i wasn’t sure about the il. ia. regulations, i just remembered the 2004 tailwater regulations. have u heard anything or anyone heard if they are going to continue this. i still having a hard time understanding why they don’t do this with all lock and dams. its working in these 3 pools and with all the more fishing pressure every year, it can only improve the quaility of fish. they got my vote and everyone else i know who are sportsman about fishing limits and slot sizes. GO VIKINGS, i wish we had Bret Farve.

Quite the video Steve! Now if they could come up with a low recoil slug hunting gun like that I’d be first in line!

hmmm….wonder how I could get my hands on one of those. Be a lot more fun killing pigeons at the elevator with that than the pellet gun.
