A got .270 last night set it up with a nice Bushnell scope and she is ready to be sighted in.

So I am wondering what is the best Deer killing round for a .270?

    I was thinking 130 grains???

I won’t be using it. My cousin will be using it to hunt with us this year. It is her first time gun hunting and I would like to find a good round that will do the job without leaving a scope ring in her eye.

    Thanks!

I have shot the 130 gr ballestic silver tips now for 4 years. I have been very happy with the power and consistant placement with them. Have shot some other rounds through it but these were by far the best for me

I like the 130 ballistic tip federals……my Ruger 77 seems to mash the points of the lead or silver tips when loading & unloading.Probably doesnt hurt anything, but it doesnt look good.

Your .270 IMO is the perfect compromise between power & recoil. The gun performs best with the 130 g bullets. It always had all the power needed for any deer, and now our incredible assortment of “premium” bullets make it even more lethal. Barnes X bullets for one, are incredible. I am not sure why anyone would put up with more recoil to shoot deer under 200 yds.

My Ruger M77 30-06 shoots 180 grain very well but doesn’t seem to like 150 grain slugs. The group spreads out to 4 inches at 100 yards. Not a big deal but still noticable. I just mention this experience because you may have to try different loads to find the straightest shooter.

Nosler Accubonds are the best deer bullet I have found. With the Polymer tip they open no matter where you hit them, but the bonded bullet reatins 65% of so of it’s weight, so it will still drive through bone when needed (won’t explode like Ballistic Tips can do). Plus, they are accurate as hell.

I shoot 140 grain because it is the only factory loaded weight available right now. To be honest, the deer nor the ballistic charts can tell much difference between a 130 and 140 grain anyway.

I shoot Remington Core-Lokt exclusively in my 30-06’s and .270. I shoot the 150 grain. When I use these up, I will get em in managed recoil too.
