I just bought a slightly used Ruger Red Lable from a buddy I bought it for 700.00 because he was having a problem when shooting heavier pheasant loads after the first shot the recoil would put the safty on making a second shot impossible unless the safly is pushed back forward. this only happens with heavy loads. target loads have no affect.bang bang.. any ideas???? beautiful gun otherwise. thanks Corey

Corey is sounds like either the spring tension is gone or the detent ball is missing or out of place on the safety.

That’s what I’m thinking as well. Should be a spring/ball bearing in the assembly. Not sure on the safety placement on the red label, is it up top like a mossberg?? I would call Ruger, see if they’ve delt with this problem and what the fix was, guessing the spring is soft as it probably takes lots of cycles to wear that bearing.

I had that happen to my Citori. The safety just needed to be adjusted. If at all similair to Browning,..You might be able to do it yourself,..take the stock off and check how the thumb mechanism is secured in the receiver. What to do might be obvious. If not,…any gunsmith should be able to fix it.

Check with Ruger. I would bet since it is the safety they will fix for free.
