Well it’s amazing what one can accomplish when you get electricity back in your workshop and you’re boatless. This stock is from one of the original M77’s first designed by Len Brownell that needed some restoration. Got my electricity back last night and preceded to carefully strip the stocks existing finish (Remember on a stock refinish jobs sandpaper should be your last option when removing existing finish or trying to cover up dings!).

We decided to go with a premium recoil pad so we opted for the Pachmayr Decelerator, so I fitted the pad to the stock using a kean eye and a disc sander (these are grind to fit pads). The difference will definitely be seen on this when Dean fires his first round (very very smooth pads that take away much of the kick).

As it stands it looks like I am much farther than I am in reality. The tedious finish process will require the most time. Drying time will consume most of the time because I will build the finish up with about 12 coats. Coat, dry, coat, dry, and repeat process.

What I will do is try to post a picture of the stock every week to track it’s progress. As you can see right now it looks very dull that is because it just received its first coat, give it about 5-6 more coats and you will see a definite glimmer in the wood. Now I just wish I would have take a picture before I started
