I have just purchased a Remington 1100 2 3/4″ chamber and it has a plain 30″ barrel. Would it be worth putting on a vent rib and shortening the barrel to 26″? Also it is a fixed choke gun full choke. Is it possible to install screw in chokes or should I just leave it alone.

If it was mine I would buy a different barrel for it with the Rem Choke, I prefer the 28″ but if you hunt grouse the 26″ is nice. We got dad a 26″ with the Rem Chokes so he could use his Deer Slayer for birds.

Don’t have a vent rib put on it, just get a different bbl for it set up the way you want it.

Expensive look at Cabelas for 1100 barrels, cheaper to buy a new barrel than to have yours treaded for screw in chokes. Having the barrel chopped to 26″ would make sense, just still rememeber you problably will not be able to shoot steel through it.
Due in part the bore constriction is much tighter on older barrel than newer ones. The shells of the old were lower pressure so manufactures made the bore dimensions tigher, to get the speed and velocity they wanted. Now with better shells the barrels have been opened up.

If it was up to me I’d chop 4″ off and just shoot it.

Yep, I have used one for turkey, well I patterend one for turkey and I was impressed to say the least. It is kinda shame how many people hack up those old barrels, when the could be put to good use.
