    ———before firing

    Quote:

Saturday 30 September, there was a non-injury mishap on the lower range.

A customer, sighting-in his hunting rifle, forgot to remove the boresighter before firing a live round. It was a Savage bolt-action, I believe in .30-06. Attached are photos of the results.

The boresighter was found almost all the way to the 100yd target holders.

I received that email last week and have been trying to de-bunk it. Even if it is real I think it was intentional. I just can’t believe someone loaded the gun and didn’t see the red bore sight…

I know a dude who lost his eye because his barrel was plugged while trap shooting so I know bad things can happen.

I have a Weatherby .300 that I’m sure has the power to do that if the barrel was sealed… .

I agree though. If someone was shooting that gun I hope they are OK…

How in the HEII do you not acknowledge the fact you have a big red tool sticking out of your barrel??

This type of thing happened to my uncle when I was young. They’re pretty sure it was snow that plugged the barrel. The barrel peeled back just like this, except it was 3 “parts” instead of 4. He was lucky to not get injured at all…just scared the hell out of him.

To all the muzzleloader guys too, remove the ramrod b/4 you shoot. Heard of a guy down this way last week at the range, left the ramrod in…..he was shook up a bit but nothing serious happened.
