Does anyone shoot a Ruger M77 in .270cal for deer? I will be hunting with one this year and at the test bench it’s the best I’ve ever shot.

The ballistics on the 270 and the 7mm are relatively the same, both being very flat shooting guns and good for the longer shots. My longest all time shot with my Ruger is 405 yds and I had a double lung shot! I’ve got the Stainless Steel model and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

My 2cents!September 7, 2006 at 1:13 pm #20179I have always wanted to shoot the .280 but have not bought one because the shells are hard to find or harder to find have only heard good things though. I shoot a .270 BAR

September 8, 2006 at 3:57 am #20231I did shoot a M-77 22/250 Heavy barrel for fox and coyotes. Shoots real good but not as good as the old tack driver my Remington 700 22-250 heavy barrel. Now that gun just flat shoots. Don’t use’um much any more because of health reasons. I have a Leopould straight 8 power scope on the Remington and a Redfield Widefield straight 6 power on the Ruger. Used the Ruger rings on the Ruger & Redfield base & rings on the Remington. Shoot Hornady Ballistic tips thru both guns. Use Winchester 748 ball powder in both guns also. Can’t remember the amount of powder used but it is different in each gun. I am wasn’t a paper puncher, just wanted something that shot varmits. Ruger makes a very fine rifle. That lost foam casting of the actions is just neat. So constant.

September 15, 2006 at 5:47 pm #20705I shoot three different M77 in left hand models, .270, 7mm mag, and an 30-06. They are great rifles. The only thing I would suggest is I have never seen a Ruger that didn’t need a trigger job. Get it done it will be the best $45 you will ever spend on the gun. Mine all have muzzle brakes installed as well. My .270 is my favorite with the brake the recoil is about like a light .243 load. All three shoot less than .5 M.O.A. at 100yrds with the loads I have worked up for them.

September 16, 2006 at 2:24 pm #20745I shoot an A-Bolt in the .270 cal. The .270 makes for a sweet projectile
I downed an Elk last year over 200 yards away, not that the .270 is a great Elk load. It is plenty sweet on all deer thoughSeptember 16, 2006 at 2:24 pm #479521I shoot an A-Bolt in the .270 cal. The .270 makes for a sweet projectile
