The night started off normal…well if you can call squeezing the trigger on a “tommy gun” normal! What an awesome historic weapon to just hold much less fire!

We then shot the 30 9mm submachine gun, which reminded me of shooting a .22 cal rifle…except it was in 9mm and fully automatic! I timed this slower of the three auto’s and by standing on the trigger, 30 rounds went down range in under 5 seconds!

Next up was the .223 SAW (special assault weapon??). I don’t know guys…how do you describe a machine gun like this?

Next we were instructed on basic handgun fundimentals by Clay Brisbin.
Clay did an outstanding job of comunicating the 4 basic fundamentals of accurate hand gun shooting.

Then finally…the surprise…a (in my little world)…once in a life time experiance!

    Read on!

Above photo of Clay Brinsbin teaching the Fundamentals class.

Above is Francis aka Fish Them All with our surprise.

A chance to hold and squeeze the trigger on a $10,000.00 semi auto .50 cal rifle…by the way…that’s $10k without the scope!

Many thanks to BrianK and Bill’s Gun Shop for the full auto shoot! Once again I had a great time shooting full auto.
I was really looking forward to shooting the S.A.W. It was a blast. I would have bought a whole can of ammo if they had the belt set-up! That thing seriously ROCKS! Bill’s went the extra mile like just last time (i.e. full auto Glock pistol) by letting all of us shoot the .50 caliber for free! It was really worth sticking around.
I picked up some good pointers in the class also.

Thanks again Clay, J.T., and Brian!

Thanks, Brian! We had a great time! This event far surpassed our expectations! Thanks for letting us shoot ur Glock 9mm…my wife liked it very much.

The auto shoots were fantastic. I loved the .45 thompson. I was surprised but how stable and smooth it was with little recoil, considering that it was a WW2 weapon. Although for some reason, I could not hold my auto on target for long. Blame it on my inexperience. Bill and Francis did not have any problems bringing the thompson on target at full mag auto. The MP9 was such a sweet weapon. Having fired it before, it was really nice to revisit it again. Very smooth, low recoil, and easy to control even for me. I was able to hold full auto on target. Love it! The final auto weapon was the Squad Assault Weapon. Clay said that in the squad, there are 2 SAW gunners. For such a large gun, I was surprised to find that it was possible to fire it from the shoulder, although not for many rounds, because of the weight of the weapon. Bipod firing was of course the most stable, but even for me, at full auto for 20-25 rounds, it did rattle my head a little. Very nice weapon to fire and to have on your side provided that u are not the one having to lug it around all the time.

What I really found outstanding, for a gun novice like me, was the instructions on hand gun shooting that Clay gave after the auto shoot. I felt that he instructed extremely well on the basic tenets of hand gun shooting and shooting in general and I felt that my shooting skills would vastly improve the next time I pick up a gun. At least now I have some theoretical knowledge on how to shoot straight. We were very impressed. Clay was professional, instructed very well, and had a wealth of practical knowledge to impart to us.

The icing on the cake that night was the 50 caliber sniper rifle. I think it is the M107. http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/infantry/rifle/M107.html

We did not imagine that we would get to shoot it or even touch that weapon. We were content to just observe it in action. But JT, the owner of the M107 from Bill’s had 10 rounds 0.50 caliber rounds with him and after firing the first shot to test this cherry weapon, invited all of us to shoot it for free! I knew that to be able to shoot a 50 caliber sniper rifle is a one-in-a-lifetime chance. Even in the military, only a extremely select few would have that chance to shoot it. My wife needed a lot of coaxing and encouragement from both Clay and JT, together with a lot of reassurances that the weapon would not hurt her, before she was able to be convinced to give it a try. Thanks JT and Clay. I think not many girls in the world can claim to have fired a 0.50 caliber sniper rifle! All of us fired it in prone position and it was definitely apprehensive to shoot it. The power and report from that rifle was awesome for a bystander!!! But it was relatively easier on the shooter. All of us managed to hit the target!

I will be posting some more photos once I get back from work. But in the meantime, I want to thank Brian for organizing such a great IDA event. Really outstanding!! I want to thank Bill’s for having us and for Clay’s patience and instructions. Finally, and not least, JT for his great generosity in letting us shoot his new baby!! Thank you so much!!

Thanks for the outstanding summary Vincent!

I believe JT thought there were less than 25 of those 50’s in the state.

Well guys I want to start out by saying you got one heck of a site here. It was a privilege to help you guys out with the full-auto shoot. Like I said, I enjoy instructing it almost as much as I like shooting them. The SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) is our newest addition to our cadre of full automatic weapons at Bill’s. It is meant to be shot from the bi-pod, but with experience is fully capable of being shoulder fired. I got thinking of one of the questions last night (is the SAW replacing the M-60) a better answer then the one I gave last night is they fill two different nitches. The M-60 is a heavy machinegun and the SAW is a medium. Therefore making it capable of being carried around more readily.
The MP5 would undoubtedly make for one hell of a carp killer!!!!
As for the surprise, the beret .50 is a sweet gun. This was the first time for me shooting the beret as well, I have shot armalite ar -50’s many times, they have a bit more recoil and are more obnoxious sounding, but are still fun to play with.

Thank you guys again for coming. Hope the instruction on handgun shooting helps, and like I said you can always contact me with any questions. Also if any of you want to get into the sport more, we can always set up a 1-on-1 or get you through our concealed carry class.

    thanks

    Hey! Welcome Clay!

It’s great to have an instructors’ point of view on many items that pop up in this forum.

Are you the fella that holds the Tactical Tuesday sessions? I’m thinking that we’ll have a lot of interest in holding one of these for our members…I know they are the most popular classes at Bill’s.

If there’s enough interest, we’ll have to see about scheduling one down the road.

I’ll have to see where that video is that explains what a Tactical Tuesday is.
