Hey Mack, you mentioned the muzzel break earlier and I just thought I’d throw this out there for your amusement. A buddy of mine and I were doing a little herd control at a friend of mines farm a couple years ago. One of our main goals was to let my buddy test the limits of his 30-378 Weatherby. Ballisticaly it is a phenomenal round, so we wanted to get a broadside 400-500yd shot. He shoots the Barnes X 180 gr. limited expansion bullet (retains like 99% of it’s weight) to keep from ruining the meat by the bullet exploding on impact. But anyway, meanwhile back on the farm….the 500 yd. shot didn’t present itself this night so we went to check one of his far fields. We started to come up over the crown of the field (army crawling) and I see a deer about 20-30 yds. away next thing you know another deer pops it’s head up at 20 yds, both of them now looking our direction. My buddy whispers what do we do? Noticing that the deer are getting uneasy I whisper “on the count of 3”. On 3 we both jump up and wholey stampede!! About 20 some deer take off, all within 75 yards of us. Well we start shooting, but I didn’t realize, until my buddy shoots the first time, that I was approximately 28″ further forward than he was
Did I mention he had a break on his gun!!! I think it was about an hour later that my ears quit ringing. We laugh about it now but we agreed that from now on he leads the way
Do your research on that round Mack. He’s got @ $2000 wrapped up in the gun, scope, bases and rings. Not to mention his shells are $80/box.
