    x2 Beads…

Matt, best wishes to addressing the medical issues.

Tim, not sure how old you are, but I’ve heard that shoulder strength wains as we age and can cause over working of the forearm muscles and tight tendons etc too.

I had some serious elbow pain in the last 5 years, as well. Oddly enough, I started cross country skiing last winter and it really helped with shoulder strength and the elbows have not bothered me at all since.

Not saying you should run out and buy skis, but if you end up with PT ask them about it.

What the he** doesn’t wane as we get older?! Seriously thanks Erik, trying to get to the gym more, in the winter I fish (kinda like summer, spring, & fall)In this state with a loooooooong winter we all need something that we like that gets us outside, glad you found skiing.

Another thing my PT told me after I recover was when going back to certain things like exercise, fishing, cranking the trailer winch, etc. Be sure to take as loose a grip as you can when easing back into those activities. The grip is what tightens down the ligament that goes through the elbow, causing the tendinitis.

And then the light went on for me… I grip so hard when I crank the winch on my trailer, and the Trailer Valet that I use to maneuver my boat into and around the garage. The boat goes in/out of the garage and to the lake 50 times a year – well that’s times 2 in/out the garage with the Trailer Valet – and times 2 in/out with the winch at the boat ramp. So you’re talking 200 times a Summer I crank either the winch or Trailer Valet with a death grip while cranking.

That’s what did it for me. What did it for you? I bet whatever it was you used an iron grip while doing it…

So now that I’m “recovered,” I go back to those things with a lighter grip and with about 2/3 intensity. It still gets done and my elbow is good.

If you drink a whiskey a day you won’t need to go to the doctors

    No kidding right?!

Talk about hurting stuff…won’t catch me in a gym anymore. jester

Regardless, I think the key is to find something you can actually enjoy and is good exercise all around. Makes days out on the water (or in the woods/field) that much more fun when your not in pain.

Went to PT, felt great, she showed me all kinds of excercises, messages etc.
The big take away for me and all of you who do a lot of casting is to use a wrist brace, even though the pain is in your elbow the problem starts with your wrist flexing under strain. So if you are going to be throwing lots of heavy lures (listening John?) get that wrist brace before you have a problem. Does it look ridiculous and ugly, yes & yes.
