I brought a deer in to get a shoulder mount at the end of February 2016 and was told it would be done September/October, ok great. December came and I hadn’t heard anything so I called and was told January/February, ok fine. May came and I called again and was told middle of June. Now it’s almost September and still no word about my deer. So I am looking for some advice on how to proceed forward. I feel I have been plenty patient so far and would just like my deer back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you paid them in full already? What has been done so far? It seems far to long but sometimes quality Taxidermists take longer than anyone would like. Granted you were given a time frame and it’s been pushed a few times, stop by their shop and talk to them in person if you haven’t already. Sometimes when a person shows up versus a phone call that has more power in getting things done. Don’t give up on it like I did, I dropped mine off in hopes of a decent turn around and 4 years later all I got was a skull cap with the rack. I have no clue what to do with mine now.

I put a $300 deposit down when I dropped it off. I have no idea where he is at with the mount but every time I have called it was he just had to finish up something then mine was next so it’s starting to sound like excuses but I don’t know. I may try calling again and see where he is at or tell him I am going to stop by to see the progress and see what he has to say.

Wow! That’s crazy! I took mine to the taxidermist last year on Halloween and it was done the second week of March. And it looks unbelievable! So quality work can be done in a short period of time.

I would for sure walk in and ask to take a look at the deer. If it’s still in the freezer, I would begin to ask why he lied to you. My taxidermist ran into some health issues last winter and some things got delayed. He we out of his way to call me and tell me, I was surprised he went out of his way to contact while in a time of healing. He ended up calling me a month after the expected date to come pick it up and I couldn’t be happier.

Have you brought other animals to this taxidermist? If not, do some asking around and pick a reputable one. I am a fan of Bucks in Nelson, WI and Scott Miller in Precott, WI.

I have not used this taxidermist before but he came recommended by someone I know who had used him before and currently had some fish there the time I dropped off my deer. I will not be using this guy in the future for anything. Like I said I have been polite in our conversations but just didn’t know if this is an unreasonable amount of time or if there was more I could do besides going there and getting my deer then try to find someone else and have to wait even longer since this is my first deer mount. Thanks for all the help

Get a replacement cape and find a reputable taxidermist and mount it up

A big doe cape works too…. is this guy really a taxidermist or a hobbyist ? Great mounts can be done in 6 months and even less, this guy is a horrible business owner at the very least. I would ask for my deer and ca$h back, that is ridiculous.

call him again if he puts you off again let him know you will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau
and contacting the local cop shop about being swindled
you should get your rack, cape and money back
you have been more than patient and understanding with him
    sometimes you gotta push back
    good luck

Just got off the phone with him and now it’s middle of September when it will be done but he said for sure it will be. He apologized for the delay and had some excuses and I just told him if it’s not done by September I will be picking it up and bringing it somewhere else and he assured my it will be done so we will see.

Big G I believe he is a full time taxidermist. He has a website and a very nice workshop. He also has a booth every year at the St. Cloud sportsman show. I’m not saying he is the best especially after my ordeal but I do believe he is not a hobbyist

I do not have it yet but I am hoping soon. It is mounted on the form. He sent a picture and said it needs to dry some more and he needs to do some final painting on it.
