Mainly home defense, or hunting if I am accurate enough. Thks DK.

A 4-inch barrel is marginal to poor for handgun hunting, IMO. While 357 Mag is adequate for 50 yard or so distances, it starts to run out of gas quickly beyond that. Even at 50 yards, I think it’s easy to underestimate how difficult it is to shoot an acceptable hunting group with a short barreled handgun. Even more so with iron sights.

At one time I had a 357 Rem Max and even stoked with loads much hotter than would be safe to use in a revolver (my Rem Max was a Contender), it still did not give the kind of performance I was looking for at 100. The B/C just isn’t there and the straight case just doesn’t have the ponies.

I have a S&W 636 .357 6 inch barrel chrome I put a Prizm red dot on it and if your steady enough she is dead nuts accurate. With the right loads it will hold 404 ft lbs and 7.5 inches of drop at 100 yards and can be pushed a little higher. I have such a blast with it I reload pooch loads using Winchester AA ball powder at 4.8 grains it shoots like a 9m no recoil at all I do not know how many shots I have fired thru this pistol, I do know I have about 1000 reloads on hand for it most of the time. Now my Rock Island 45 ACP double stack I keep around 3,ooo rounds loaded for it for some reason that dam thing being double stack just seems to shoot more rounds quickly. Sorry about the ramble Oh Well.

I would go to 6″ if you have any interest in hunting. 4″ is designed of defense. the accuracy and fps is not thee with a 4″.

It might…but why would you want to try? Better chance you don’t hit your target where you want and then another wounded deer runs off.

I have a similar Taurus 38 spl and not sure I could hit my own head with it. ???

Do I even want to know how much that cannon weighs?

Don’t think of it as “weight”, think of it as “recoil management”. grin

About 84oz or just over 5 lbs for the 10.5″ barrel. I would change nothing about her. S.W. PC does and outstanding job tuning these actions.
And yes def helps w/ recoil control
