Tacoma/Colorado

I have yet to talk to anyone in person that has had a less than a stellar experience with a Tacoma. The only negative comments I’ve seen online might have come from those that don’t want to see a non-domestic carmaker succeed. I get it, but I’m not sure I view those comments as credible criticisms either…

That’s sweet, eyekatcher. waytogo If I didn’t have the need for a full-size truck/SUV, I’d have a Tacoma or 4Runner. It’s not currently feasible for me, though (but I LOVE my Sequoia).

Thank you EPG! I’ve been trying to convince the FW that we NEED a new 1-ton/dually/crew cab/8′ box/diesel as a tow vehicle for the new 2000# (total) rig we have on order, but she’s pushing back a bit,,,,

Tacoma. Toyota is consistently rock solid. Go 6 cylinder and go manual transmission if at all possible, unless you’re dead set on having an auto.

Had an amazing experience with a Colorado so I thought I’d share. I bought a brand new 2019 LT Colorado in 2020 (because my Highlander was stolen) over the Tacoma for the simple reason that the rear seat has no room in the Tacoma, the Colorado can actually fit a normal sized human without your knees somewhere in the driver/passenger’s lumbar spine.

Having said that, I will never buy another GM product again. Immediately, my Infotainment Center (radio with a screen) didn’t work right. The Android Auto never worked so I couldn’t use the Google Maps. It would switch from a podcast to radio on it’s own. Took it in several times, they couldn’t find anything. Then it started to really get weird. The back up camera didn’t work one time. The toggles on the steering wheel wouldn’t switch channels, or change volume. Took it in 4 or 5x more saying, hey, the back up camera has nothing to do with my phone (which they kept claiming was the problem), nor does volume control, etc. There has to be a loose connection or something. Literally had a tech sit in my car and drive with me to show them the problems, we didn’t leave the parking space cause it was already failing. Finally, they took the whole thing out and replaced it, some things got better, others did not. Thank god for Lemon Law. Minus attorney fees they paid me a third of the price of the vehicle for the issues.

Without said issues, it’s a fine little truck. I’m already ready for a full sized though for the same reasons above, towing capacity, my 2 boys just continue to grow, etc. I get 22.5 mph combined highway and city driving, have towed a 17 foot boat very short distances, and it fits well in a parking ramp that I have to use every day for work.

Lol yeah, I can understand that. Think maybe my comment came across as a little insensitive and hope nobody took it as a personal jab- definitely wasn’t. Meant it with tongue in cheek(mostly tongue ). Drive whatever works for YOU and to hell with whatever anybody else thinks!

Side note: I do think the mini duramax Colorado is pretty cool, would be curious if anybody has any experience with one?

Keep in mind the new maverick is uni-body,more like a 4×4 car.May work for some but for a tow vehicle and 4×4 I prefer a full frame front to back.

Had a 2001 Durango with a truck frame and 5.9 V8. Was great for towing, pulling vehicles from the ditch, etc. Looking for a new vehicle in 2014 I was disappointed that the new Durango was unibody. No midsize SUVs available at that time with a truck frame and didn’t want to go up to an Expedition or Tahoe given space constraints in the garage.

Alex – please clarify so I understand the point you are making regarding this truck?

Was the majority of your problems related to their stereo/navigation/android fail?

Hard for me to understand how this would qualify for lemon law.

    Appreciate your time and clarification.

I had a Tacoma no problems with it at all. Towed my 17 1/2′ boat just fine. Would not hesitate to recommend it.

    Kurt,

I’m no attorney, but the lawsuit brought forth had 8 different counts against GM. From my limited understanding and recoluection, 2 were the following.
    1. No resolution came in a certain time frame (6 months or less I think)
    2. It was not fixed in 3 tries or less by the dealership. All in all, I think I had it in 12+ times. Any piece of the vehicle doesn’t work, and they don’t fix it, I guess it qualifies.

Yes, all the problems stemmed from the stereo, but that runs navigation, back up camera, music, phone calls, etc. They kept trying to blame my phone, which was a fair guess, 1. the phone does not run the radio, back up camera, etc. which all had issues, 2. every time I got a loaner (Silverado, Traverse, Blazer, and something else) I had no issues with any of these features run by my phone, 3. every time a tech would “test it” he would use an Iphone, I have an android, and like the attorney said, there isn’t a list of phones required to run the vehicle when you purchase it.

My point of the post was to let the guys on here know of the terrible time I’ve had and the terrible service I received. The Colorado fit my needs and family better than the Tacoma, but what a hassle. I get that any 1 vehicle off the line can have an issue, but after my experience, I’m done with GM products.

    Hope that helps clarify.

    No complaints,
If I may ask, what are the shackles, or clevis on the front for?
I’m sorry it was killing me. I had to ask. And did you ask the dealer to paint match?
Wouldn’t you normally use those in a tow or pull situation? Or is that a look?

It’s the off road look all us “cool kids” are doing.
It’s used to aid in getting others (and ourselves) out of a mess.
    Here is the other pic.
They came red for the look and I took apart half the truck to get them installed.

“Can people drive manuals any more?”

You can park in some pretty bad neighborhoods, doors unlocked, keys in the ignition… and a manual wouldn’t get stolen..

I’m definitely not a Toyota guy, but I’ve seen a couple of those off road style Tacomas around and they look intriguing. What really gets my attention is the apparent ground clearance. I haven’t looked at specs or anything, or compared to the Colorado, but it sure looks like they’d get around pretty well on back country forest roads, or through the snow on a frozen lake.

I have a 2019 Colorado. So far I really like it. I haven’t put on enough miles yet to judge the dependability. It rides nice and tows well. Before this truck I had a Ridgeline, there is a little less room in the Colorado and a lot less storage spaces.

I’m in the same boat. I want a new 3/4 ton ram with the 6.4 and long box.
Not easy to find and not cheap when found.

Not many trucks come with Toe Hooks anymore, I know my Ram and most half tons don’t have them. Even finding a 6’4″ box is difficult, my dealership reached out and offered me 2k less than I bought my truck for after 3 years and 50k miles driven, but that was my one requirement on a new one and they didn’t have one and didn’t have one not already bought coming to the lot anytime soon. Plus the money didn’t work out, as it would add 4 years to my loan and an extra $100+ month on the payment.
