Sorry for the late reply. I had the exact same thing happen. It was worse during cold weather. I took mine to a marine mechanic and don’t recall exactly what he did but I believe some screen or filter was clogged. The repair bill was around $200 for parts and labor and it worked fine afterwards. The parts were pretty minor.
The only problem I’ve had since was a couple of instances last fall on a couple of cold mornings when I trimmed the motor fully up and then it seemed to get stuck in that position. I don’t know if I’m low or fluid or what but now instead if leaving it in the full up position, meaning all the way up until it stops, I’ll tap the down trim switch to tilt the motor down an inch or two and I haven’t had a reoccurrence, even during sub-freezing temperatures in the winter months.
On a somewhat related note, the same mechanic repaired the throttle/idle on my T-8. I was never really please with how the T-8 would idle when it was new. I heard if you drilled out a cover plug that you could adjust a screw to make it idle better. I tried this and it really didn’t seem to make a difference. I’m not sure what this mechanic did, but my T-8 really idles down much slower now and doesn’t seem to increase or decrease rpms on its own, meaning without me adjusting the throttle. Before it would just seem to start revving higher or slower all on its own. I went from being okay with the T-8 performance to loving it. I don’t know why they don’t come from the factory like that.
