Switching cell phone carriers

Anyone know if you switch from ATT to Verizon if you can keep your current number? Last time I contemplated this the carriers were making this much harder to do – but it’s been several years. If it means losing my current number it’s a non-starter for me and I’ll stay where I’m at despite less coverage in rural areas.

I believe it’s a federal law now that they have to let you keep your number…

We did this a couple years ago, pulled the wifes at&t number into my verizon account. It was easy and pretty painless.

My wife just switched over to Verizon from AT&T last week and yes you keep your number. Depending on your phone you may not be able to use it on a Verizon account, my wife had to get a newer phone since her’s was 3 years old and made for AT&T

yes, you can port(transfer) any phone number to any carrier. For example you could even move a landline number to a cellular carrier, and vice versa. Some carriers may charge a small fee to either move it from, or introduce it, but they cannot prevent you from porting any number.

When you sign up for the new service, simply tell them you want to “port your existing number” to them. You will have to fill out a form, provide them the carrier information of the current service, etc.

When you activate your new phone, they should have the port process programmed to kick off automatically. The carrier may tell you that it will take up to 24 hours to process, but it usually takes less than 60 minutes to complete.
