The How Much Would You Spend on a Bass Lure thread got me thinking about swimbaits and glidebaits. Do any of you use any big swimbaits or glidebaits here in MN? I have had pretty good results with the Magdrafts from Megabass, but I bought a few of the 3D Glide Swimmers from Savage Gear last season but never got the chance to give them a shot.

Wondering if anyone has any they have enjoyed throwing here in MN?

It’s all my kid wants to throw. I’ve seen it work on big fish, he got his biggest bass last season on a savage gear, not sure what one but it was a big bait. Every time he’s on tackle warehouse he wants to order a couple more and I tell him no, you have like 10 of them.
I bet it’ll be the first bait he wants to throw on rainy just because he loves both big swimbaits and glides

I always think “man that’s a great lure to lose to a pike”. Watching the action on some of those baits is entertaining though.

Yeah that and muskie have always worried me about these. But I think I’m gonna give them a shot this year. They sure do seem to get that bigger class of fish when they do get bit.

I think the savage gear my kid crushed his big bass on was a 3d something or another. Surprisingly he never caught a pike with it all season. He did get smallies on vermillion when he was throwing it for musky /pike
Here’s one of his bigger bass from last season on the glide bait

Ok, maybe that’s the same as the one I have. I have a dark bluegill color and a clear bone color. It’s the 3D glide swimmer, I think the name is.

The amount of larger crappies that get side hooked on that bait is pretty crazy. I bet he’s pulled in a dozen or more that seem to just be side swiping the bait and get hooked.

That’s interesting. Maybe just checking it out and then get snagged?

Seems like it’s the same snip they take at jerk baits, we catch alot of side hooked crappies on jerk baits as well. I’m not sure if they are trying to snip at these bigger baits or just side swiping them ?

I have not tried any yet. I just purchased some from a guy who have played around with a lot of them. He had some he was willing to part with at a good price. I mostly wanted them to use on large Pike in Canada. I’m sure I’ll also give them a try for bass some this next summer as well. I held out on the whole mullet / Chicken jig thing for along time and finally decided to give them a try later in the summer last year and had a few good days fishing them. Maybe these big glide baits will be the same

Go look at tackle warehouse, they have some glide baits for over a grand. Just boggles my mind. Maybe one day I’ll have crazy dumb money but until then, that’s Ludacris

It’s a cult market really. People collect them like sought after baseball cards. There are websites and facebook groups dedicated to just collecting and selling them. Don’t really get it but hey, if it helps keep the bass fishing industry healthy, have at it.
