Looking to go Sturgion fishing on the Rainy River with someone who knows the fish and the river a little bit. Would exchange for Muskie or Walleye fishing on Leech Lake. I fish out of a 20′ center counsal saltwater bay boat. Leech lake is one of the hottest Walleye lakes right now! Lots of 4’s 5’s and 6’s with plenty of eaters. Consistant action for Muskies over 40″ with a shot at a 50″Plus!

Are you just looking for a partner to make the trip or are you looking to shorten the learning curve?

I only ask because if it’s the later you’ll have no problems finding the fish on your own. Basically, stay in the channel of the river it self and as it winds through Four Mile Bay. Or………….just follow the boats if you can find them.

Thanks for the info…Yeah just looking to learn a little. Sounds like the deeper holes produce the best. I guess I just try to find some night crawlers? In early April?

Typically the deeper stretches of river hold the fish. Spril is a good time, but the fish are around most of spring into early summer. Crawlers are the typical top producer during the spring period.

Look around the catfish/sturgeon forum to find all kinds of info.

Good advice by the Sturgeonair Francis!

I turn down guided trips up there for the Sturgeon Excursion every year because if you have a boat, you will not need a guide.

Everyone is more than willing to help out a person newer to the fun of Sturgeon fishing.

I’m not sure when you are going, but the Ido group will be up there at Wigwam and Adrian’s Resort on April 22-25.
Check out the post in the general forum.
