It is some time away, but anyone want to say goodbye to a season doing some shore fishing on the Miss.? Opener gets all the hype but where is the respect for the closer! Plus I went to the freezer to take some fish out and NOOO I am all out. Can’t go 3 months with no fish. Almost a full moon that night, and maybe some walleyes will be starting their run upstream for the spawn by then to give a little better action at night. Thinking an hour before sunset all the way to midnight. Closer will be respected.

Might be fun. Isnt the end of the season the end of this month for bass and walleyes?

Feb. 24 is the date, although I beleive that smallmouth is open year around catch and release only for that section of the river.

And that would be why I didn’t say inland waters.

The Wisconsin River system is also open year round for walleye fishing while other inland waters are closed until the first Saturday in May.

But the discussion, here, is about MN inland waters of the Mississippi River, which do, in fact, close on February 24. So, your post was misleading.

I think he was trying to taunt us with his ability to fish still.

Monticello is about as far inland as you can get!You said the Miss.river is open year round.I would be willing to bet you a $100 that you don’t have it right.

Actually, the part that I missed was that nham was from Monticello, MN. It just so happens that we also have a Monticello here in Wisconsin as well. Thats where I mistakenly assumed this guy was from and which would have made my post much more relevant.

    My bad guys!

By the way, when I said the Miss. River, I was referring to the main channel.

What exactly do you mean by “main channel”?The part navigable for barge traffic? The main channel that starts in Itasca and runs through Monticello and all other rivers are tributaries to?

My main river channel has barges on it and border waters (as you mentioned) are between the rail road tracks.

The spray bottle is full of Splash, windshield washer fluid. I use it on my reels when fishing in cold temps. I started doing this when I was muskies fishing in the late fall. It works great on the reels but does nothing for the guides and eyelets.

Made it last night and was beautiful out when the clouds eventually cleared. But not a walleye to be had, couple nice smallies before the sun went down, had no live bait, threw the tackle box out there without a bite. Going again today through most of night with some live bait try my luck that way if anyone wants to meet up PM me.

As in summer times oddly enough when that sun went down, whoever had a fly rod would have been kept busy bc a lot of fish started surfacing at that point, actually flying out of it. Thought the cooler temps. Would slow em down a bit.
