Suzuki DF140A oil filter

I recently purchased an oil filter from the dealer and the new one is about half the size of the original. Any brainiacs here have any insight? Online they both claim to be for the 140 but it just seems odd to me.

Not sure, I normally buy Wix from Napa and they haven’t changed.

Its pretty common that multiple capacity filters work for the same motor. I used to use AC Delco filters in my old truck back in the day. PF-47 and I believe it was PF52. The 52 was a longer filter.
Id prefer to use the longer one if possible for increased capacity.

Lots of variations in filter sizes and capacities. For the hours a midwest boat owner puts in between oil changes and the clean operating environment, it won’t make any difference at all as long as it has the manufacturer’s stamp of approval.

At a guess, I’d say Suzuki is trying to consolidate parts and realized that they can run the same oil filter in more models.

Looked up the engine and both filters will work, one was likely slapped on during production.
