Surrounding Lakes

    Hey Guys,

It’s getting closer and closer to spring and I’m feeling the itch… I plan to bring a buddy up to Mille Lacs and show him what Minnesota fishing is like. However I need to get him into some walleye we can keep. Not all week just one meal. I know you can harvest Walleyes from the nearby lakes of Mille Lacs. Figure we’d tow the boat to one for the day and give her hell….

Any particular lake stand out over others for the bite, size and what we can keep?

Dillon are you the guy who stayed at Fishers last year and hired Gene Miller? I have a place at Fishers and your name seems familiar.

Anyway, I wouldn’t expect too much info on other walleye lakes here. A lot of the surrounding lakes hold walleye, but in my opinion, it would be tough to head out blind for one day and expect to put any in the pan. Having said that, if you want the chance at keeping a couple walleye I’d look to Farm Island Lake or Big Sandy Lake.

LOL… yeah Lindy that’s me. I’m THAT guy. LOL… But seriously… We had an utter blast at Fisher’s last year. Dean and Sue are awesome and Gene… well… What can we say about Captain Gene Miller. He’s been Thunder Struck… by something…

I figured I’d treat my buddy to a little thunder struck too. He’s never latched on to anything bigger than a bass. A 40″ pike or muskie would blow his mind.

I just know Sue had said when we were there on a windy day that there were other lakes that might be less rough that we could go to if we were willing to take our boat there.

Thought I’d check to see if any of them are any good. I’ll check out Big Sandy and Farm Island though.

    Thanks for tip…

Platte and Sullivan have eye’s too, but can be tough to get on them. Personally I’d just stay on Mille Lacs and spend some time chasing pike, and fillet them up for the pan.

    They haven’t come out w/ the 2018/19 reg’s yet, that I have seen. Here’s 2017/18:

Northern Pike: The possession limit for northern pike is five, with only one greater than or equal to 30″. Two northern pike less than 30″ must be in immediate possession (taken the same day from Mille Lacs) before harvesting one greater than or equal to 30″. The winter angling season is open through March 25, 2018. Spearing season is open through February 25, 2018.

Thanks BigWerm. I’m going to guess 2018 is going to be pretty close to the same length.

Well, don’t you have a big mouth. My secret little honey hole isn’t much of a secret anymore.
